If that were all, it would not be certain that the musician, after decades of regrouping to the North, when he returned to Quang Ngai, could write a song filled with such love. This means that a good work that survives over time has its own special fate when it was composed.
It is true that there is fate and debt. That fate was created because during the time the musician was stationed in Quang Ngai, he had a deep love affair with a "Tra River girl". But the war did not allow them to be close to each other forever. The soldier had to march far from Quang Ngai, then go to the assembly area. More than 30 years later, he had the opportunity to return to Quang Ngai, but "looking for her, she had disappeared without a trace". After the war, it was quite common for couples to be apart and unable to find each other. This musician was no exception. But even though they were separated, their love could not end. And the song "Returning to the Tra River" was born, as a torment, a sadness; and music at that time was a liberation for the musician himself. When composing in that situation, each piece of music, each lyric was imbued with love, the musician seemed to want to share with the Tra River where he and the girl had made a promise. The river still flows as before, but the old person is no longer there.

I have listened to the song "Returning to the Tra River " sung by 3 singers; and I found that singer Thanh Tra sang this song most emotionally. There is a climax, the music soars up, reminiscent of a passage in a famous symphony by Beethoven, singer Thanh Tra performed very well: " The wind, the wind, let me hear the rustling of the sugarcane leaves, the rustling of the sugarcane leaves, the rustling of the sugarcane leaves, the rustling of the sweet rustling, the more I listen, the more I am moved ." Not only moved, but also tormented, when it reaches its peak, there is a bit of a choking feeling. The singer who wants to perform the song successfully must be able to understand the emotions and soul of the musician. The musician poured all his love into the river, where the river water holds tightly the scene of "people leave with love, people stay forever waiting". Many years ago, when Quang Ngai organized the first "Pham Van Dong Award", I proposed that a worthy award should be given to the song " Returning to the Tra River" by musician Vinh An. Because in my opinion, this is one of the best songs written about Quang Ngai.
I am not a member of the judging panel, so this suggestion is just my personal opinion. But in my opinion, the song " Returning to the Tra River" by musician Vinh An (composed in 1986) will surpass the 40-year milestone, and will continue to be a favorite song not only for Quang Ngai people.
