This morning, December 30, the Women's Union of Quang Tri province held a conference to review 3 years of implementing Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2022-2024 period; and orientation for activities in 2025.

Project 8 is implemented with 4 contents, including: Propaganda and mobilization activities to change "thinking and doing" to contribute to eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children; building and replicating models of changing "thinking and doing" to enhance women's economic power, promote gender equality and solve urgent problems of women and children.

Ensuring the voice and substantive participation of women and children in socio-economic development activities of the community, monitoring and criticizing, supporting women to participate in leadership in the political system...

Over the past 3 years, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has promoted its leading role, proactively advised local Party committees and authorities, actively coordinated with relevant departments, branches and sectors to implement the core contents and targets of the project and achieved results such as: 5/5 districts have developed implementation plans and established and operated core models of the project; established 171 community communication teams; distributed 290 sets of documents on gender capacity development to project units 8

Organized 23 communication campaigns on gender equality, domestic violence prevention, and building a safe environment for women and children at district and commune levels; organized 17 communication campaigns on domestic violence prevention, gender-based violence, and domestic violence prevention in communes with more than 2,380 participants.

The associations at all levels have established 40 trusted addresses in communes of Huong Hoa, Dakrong, Vinh Linh, and Gio Linh districts. Four policy packages have been implemented to support ethnic minority women in giving birth safely and taking care of children's health in areas with a large ethnic minority population and a rate of home births higher than the national average.

Select 4 models of livelihood groups, cooperatives, and cooperative groups to support the application of science and technology in production and business, support the building of brands, trademarks, and design of brand identities for the models. Enhance the capacity of 50 ethnic minority female cadres to participate in leadership in the political system...

In general, the models and activities of Project 8 have increasingly attracted the participation of many members, women and children of ethnic minorities, contributing to raising awareness, thinking and working methods of cadres, members and people of ethnic minority areas in preventing and combating domestic violence, preventing gender-based violence, gender equality work and participating in solving urgent issues related to women and children, which have been highly appreciated by local authorities and Party committees.

The conference also heard presentations from units with many good and creative ways of implementing the project. The results achieved were affirmed, and the shortcomings and limitations after 3 years of implementation were frankly pointed out.

Orienting the implementation of activities in 2025, the Women's Union at all levels focuses on solutions to complete the targets of establishing, operating and improving the quality of activities of support models to promote gender equality and solve urgent problems for women and children according to the project's targets.

Continue to promote communication activities, mobilize to change "thinking and ways of doing" to eliminate prejudices and gender stereotypes in families and communities, focusing on communication on digital platforms.

Enhance the capacity of ethnic minority women to run for elected bodies, enhance the capacity to implement gender equality for officials in the political system, village elders/heads, prestigious people in the community...
