On the morning of September 12, the Academy of Journalism and Communication held the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year and welcomed more than 2,300 new students of the 44th regular university course.
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member and Head of the Central Propaganda Department, praised and highly appreciated the achievements of the Academy of Journalism and Communication in the past school year. He also congratulated more than 2,300 new students of the 44th course for passing the entrance exam to study at the academy.
Mr. Nghia hopes that the collective of teachers and students will promote the tradition and achievements, aiming to build the academy into a key national university.
In the 2024-2025 school year and in the coming time, Mr. Nghia hopes that the Academy of Journalism and Communication will carry out a number of contents well.
Firstly, as a Party school, the academy needs to aim to become a model of Party building work in higher education institutions. Strongly promote the role of the Party committee and organization in leading and directing the good implementation of the functions, tasks, missions, visions, core values, and development goals of the academy.
Second, continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of training in key sectors and fields. Research and propose appropriate mechanisms and policies to attract training programs for political theory lecturers and Party building work. The Academy needs to focus on attracting excellent students to study in these sectors.
At the same time, the academy is researching to open new training majors to meet the development requirements of the country in the new period. Strongly innovate teaching methods and forms. Implement well the principle of learning combined with practice, theory linked to practice. Promote learning through exploration, discovery, and research. Mr. Nghia also emphasized that the academy needs to attach importance to developing scientific critical thinking, self-study capacity, self-enrichment of knowledge, and creativity.
Third, the academy needs to invest in and strongly promote scientific research activities, considering this a key solution to become a key university in the country. There are specific mechanisms and policies to encourage scientists, especially young lecturers, to publish internationally.
Fourth, the academy needs to be a pioneer in research and comprehensive innovation of training content and programs, ensuring compliance with the Party's guidelines and regulations and the State's policies, adapting to the strong development of digital technology and artificial intelligence, and keeping up with the trends of modern media. In addition to focusing on improving the quality of professional and technical training, the academy needs to pay special attention to fostering political theory knowledge and professional ethics for journalists, meeting practical requirements.
“Journalism, publishing, and media students need to be trained and nurtured to be able to work proficiently in digital space; have the skills to use artificial intelligence as a support tool in content exploitation, data analysis and trend prediction, news verification and fake news detection, creating new multimedia experiences; have the courage and critical thinking, be upright and have professional ethics to protect the core values of journalism against the negative impacts of digital technology and artificial intelligence,” said Mr. Nghia.
In addition, the academy needs to promote and consider university autonomy as a breakthrough solution for development. Increase attraction and utilization of domestic and foreign talents to participate in training activities, scientific research and international cooperation. Innovate the academy's governance towards modernization and international integration.
The Academy of Journalism and Communication also needs to accelerate the digital transformation process, considering this an opportunity to raise the bar and create new values, ways of doing things, and breakthroughs in efficiency and quality in training, scientific research, and administrative activities, etc.
In a message to new students, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that passing the entrance exam is already a great effort, but to pass 4 years of study and receive a university degree requires even more effort.
“The diligence and hard work of each student in studying and practicing is important, but not enough. A new scientific learning method is needed to achieve optimal results. First of all, you need to quickly move from the general learning method to approaching and applying the learning method at the university level. You should consider difficulties and obstacles as a challenging experience, a process of growing up. There may still be many things that are unfamiliar and somewhere there are things that attract and tempt you, you should be brave enough to overcome them,... You are citizens of the digital age, I hope you are sophisticated and intelligent enough to gradually master the utilities, cultivate knowledge, broaden your perspective to serve the country in the future,” Mr. Son shared.
