Adora Magic City, China's first domestically built 16-deck cruise ship, is set to embark on its maiden voyage from Shanghai to South Korea and Japan.
The cruise ship will depart from Shanghai port on January 1, starting its first 6-day journey to Jeju Island, South Korea, and Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Japan.
This is China's first domestically built cruise ship, built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Construction Company. The cruise is operated by Adora Cruises, a joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and the US Carnival Corporation.
The cruise ship is 323.6 meters long, has 2,125 rooms, and can carry up to 5,246 passengers. It has 16 floors, 22 restaurants, bars, a mahjong room, a brewery, a duty-free shop, and a traditional Chinese opera theater.

Chinese media hailed the Adora Magic City cruise ship as a milestone, showing that domestic shipbuilders can complete the most challenging projects, along with aircraft carriers and large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The cruise ship's maiden voyage comes as China's domestic tourism recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic and authorities try to stimulate overseas travel.
The cruise line is currently focusing on short-haul routes around Northeast Asia, with plans to add routes to Southeast Asia. Tickets for the first two months of 2024 are already sold out. A luxury cabin for two people in February costs about 8,500 yuan ($1,200).
