Images show Camp Nou stadium construction site is still in disarray |
After winning La Liga in June 2023, Barcelona embarked on a project to upgrade the Nou Camp to increase its capacity to 105,000. The original plan was for the team to return to their home stadium on the club's 125th anniversary (November 29, 2024).
However, the construction progress has been repeatedly delayed. According to previous reports, the return date could be pushed back to October, meaning Barcelona will not be able to host Real Madrid at home in El Clasico on May 11.
A stunning timelapse of the construction site day and night shows how far the 67-year-old stadium is from completion. While seats are starting to be installed inside, the outside is still just an unfinished skeleton with cranes constantly working.

According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona signed an agreement to continue using the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium (capacity 54,367) until the final match of the season against Villarreal. This helps the club solve the stadium problem for the final rounds.
The Daily Mail revealed that the Nou Camp's new turf will be laid in April, while the roof - expected to be the largest in Europe - is still unclear on its completion date.
The long delays have put Barcelona under severe financial pressure, despite the club expecting the stadium to generate hundreds of millions of pounds in future revenue. The Olympic Stadium’s revenues are currently significantly lower than the commercial potential of the renovated Camp Nou.
Once completed, Camp Nou will become the largest sports facility in Europe, powered by green energy with 18,000 square metres of solar panels, producing its own electricity and producing zero CO2 emissions.
