An Binh Ward receives the title of Nghi Khuc Traditional Tofu Craft

On the morning of March 3, the People's Committee of An Binh Ward, Thuan Thanh Town held a Conference to receive the title of Traditional Tofu Craft awarded by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to Nghi Khuc Quarter.

Tofu making in Nghi Khuc neighborhood has existed for hundreds of years.

Nghi Khuc tofu making has a history of several hundred years. According to word of mouth, the founder of the tofu craft in the neighborhood is Mrs. May - Mrs. Mai. In the early stages, people took advantage of the off-season to make tofu for people in the surrounding area to earn extra income. Generation after generation, many generations of Nghi Khuc people still work hard day and night with the craft. In the early days, tofu making was mainly done with manual, rudimentary tools such as: stone mills, wooden molds, bamboo baskets... so it was very hard. However, the tofu making craft is still maintained and passed down from generation to generation. In recent years, thanks to the development of technology, tofu making households have boldly invested in equipping machines, equipment, mechanizing some stages such as: grinding beans, squeezing and filtering residue, pressing beans, boiling beans... Therefore, the productivity and quality of beans have been significantly improved, meeting market demand, from which the tofu making craft in Nghi Khuc has increasingly developed, bringing stable income to people. With 14 households participating in production, the annual output is approximately 220 tons, bringing in revenue of nearly 3.1 billion VND, contributing to creating jobs for about 130 workers with an average income of 8 million VND/person/month.

Making tofu has long been a profession that brings significant economic income to Nghi Khuc people. In addition to local production, Nghi Khuc people have also developed and spread the tofu making profession to a number of countries such as Laos, Korea, Germany, Czech Republic...

In the recent ceremony to award certificates of recognition for traditional occupations and artisans of Bac Ninh province, Nghi Khuc bean-making was honored to be one of the 7 occupations to be awarded the title of Traditional Occupation by the Provincial People's Committee in 2024.
