Just over a week after launching the S24 series globally, Samsung quickly opened sales of this phone model in Vietnam on January 27. Compared to the previous generation, the design of the S24 series has not changed much. Instead, the Korean phone company focuses on upgrading software, especially the comprehensively improved AI software.

According to the reporter of Nha Bao and Cong Luan Newspaper on some technology fanpages, Vietnamese consumers "criticize" the design of the Samsung S24 series as being too "outdated".

The most expensive version, the S24 Ultra, is the “twin brother” of the S23 Ultra model that was released a year earlier. The only difference is that the aluminum case is replaced with titanium material.

Similarly, the “regular” Galaxy S24 and S24+ models also do not have many design differences compared to their predecessors.

Mr. Duc Anh, representative of a retail chain in Hanoi, said that the design from the S22 series, to the S23 series and now the S24 series has not changed much. The phone models have 90% similar shapes.

“The problem of “running out” of design ideas, old wine in new bottles is a common reality for phone companies, not just Samsung. Even Apple and Sony are facing this situation. The design of the iPhone from 12, 13 and up to generation 14 is the same,” said Mr. Duc Anh.

In terms of benefits, the phone design remains unchanged for many years, helping manufacturers save on production costs, design staff costs, etc. At the same time, it also helps brands recognize their brand more easily.

However, the lack of design changes also makes many consumers "discouraged" to change the device.

“In the past, many people changed their phones once a year, but now they only change their phones every 2-3 years. Some people even wait until there is a new design before deciding to change. It cannot be denied that the designs of current phone models are still beautiful, but they are gradually becoming boring,” Mr. Duc Anh shared.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Lac Huy, representative of CellphoneS, said that this year Samsung did not change too much in the design of the S24 series, but refined the product to be much more optimal.

In particular, a series of new AI technologies are applied to products such as photo editing with just a few steps, direct translation and self-creating wallpapers according to preferences, which also attract consumers.

In fact, at the time of opening for sale, this retail chain received nearly 2,000 pre-orders, of which the Ultra version accounted for the majority, about 80% of the deposits.

Of which, the standard 256GB version accounts for more than 60% of total orders. The 512GB version is also chosen by many customers with 24% of orders. This year's Galaxy S24 series has 4 diverse colors to choose from, Gray and Black are the most pre-ordered colors.

With the Galaxy S24 Ultra line having a strong design, the ratio of being chosen by many male users is Titan Gray and Titan Black, accounting for 75%.

Besides, Mr. Huy said that the time to change machines is shortening, instead of 2-3 years to upgrade to a new machine.

"The reason for this phenomenon is that retailers have programs to exchange old products for new ones and support prices, so consumers save a lot of money," said Mr. Huy.
