Quang Ngai aims for 1,500 hectares of safe vegetables, focusing on ensuring traceability by 2030

Milestones for vegetable areas

On the morning of June 27, according to information collected by Dan Viet reporters, Quang Ngai province has issued a plan to implement a project to develop safe and concentrated vegetable production areas, ensuring traceability of origin associated with processing and consumption markets by 2030.

Accordingly, the development orientation of vegetable production strives to reach over 13,000 hectares of vegetable cultivation area in the province by 2030, with an output of nearly 250,000 tons.

The main group includes leafy vegetables of all kinds, such as Malabar spinach, amaranth, water spinach, Malabar spinach, various types of cabbage... legumes, including long beans, green beans, other types of beans... vegetables and fruits of all kinds such as watermelon, cucumber, tomato, eggplant, squash, pumpkin, luffa, bitter melon... and annual spices, including onions, garlic, coriander, basil, perilla, chili...

Of these, the orientation is for safe, concentrated vegetables, ensuring traceability associated with processing, striving to reach nearly 1,500 hectares by 2030, with an estimated output of over 24,000 tons; in which production is mainly in the delta districts, such as Binh Son, Son Tinh, Mo Duc... and Ly Son, focusing on garlic (300 hectares) and onions (650 hectares).

Solutions to be implemented

To achieve the above goals, Quang Ngai authorities have proposed quite specific solutions and instructions to be implemented.

Of these, it is worth noting that in terms of production organization, districts, towns and cities need to determine the scale of safe vegetable production areas, focusing on the Quang Ngai Provincial Planning Scheme for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 and other related plans.

Continue to implement policies to attract businesses to invest in concentrated safe vegetable production areas; promote the formation of safe vegetable production chains from building growing areas, granting and managing codes to preserving, pre-processing, processing and consuming products.

For households producing vegetables, it is necessary to proactively link with enterprises through Cooperatives and Cooperative Groups to produce vegetables in concentrated areas, associated with building growing area codes, tracing the origin and consuming products; actively participate in training courses, training on transferring science and technology on safe vegetable production processes, preliminary processing, vegetable preservation, market knowledge...

Each locality chooses to prioritize the development of a number of vegetable varieties that have advantages for production, are regional specialties, and have the ability to link with other localities to create concentrated vegetable areas with large-scale commodities.

Support the development of agricultural value chains on the basis of diversifying forms of association and cooperation between household economies and enterprises, household economies organized in agricultural cooperatives, cooperative groups with agricultural enterprises...

Promote the application of scientific and technological advances, such as vegetable production in greenhouses, using automatic irrigation systems, water-saving irrigation, hydroponic technology... in concentrated safe vegetable production areas.

Use vegetable varieties with high yield, high quality, resistant to pests and diseases, adaptable to climate change conditions, suitable to market demand.

Increase the use of organic fertilizers, microbial organic fertilizers, microbial fertilizers and biological pesticides; limit the use of inorganic chemicals.

Regarding the consumption market, support businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups and households to build brands for safe vegetable products, associated with growing area codes; diversify safe vegetable distribution channels, form trading floors... so that consumers have enough information about local vegetable products.
