These days, people in the coastal vegetable growing area of Quynh Luu district are busy harvesting and taking care of their crops. According to them, for the past week, prices of vegetables, tubers, and fruits have increased significantly and consumption has been stronger than after Tet, more than a month ago.
Ms. Ho Thi Quyet in Hamlet 6, Minh Luong Commune said that currently, traders buy mustard greens at 3,000 VND/kg, coriander at 10,000 VND/kg, other vegetables such as scallions, lettuce... have also increased in price significantly.

While harvesting coriander, Ms. Quyet said that 1 sao of coriander can yield 5-6 quintals, the current selling price is 10,000 VND/kg, earning around 6 million VND, minus the cost of 1.5 million VND, the profit is over 4 million VND within 30 days of care. However, this price is not high, compared to the best price of 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.
“After Tet, vegetables were only priced at 1,000 to 2,000 VND/kg but were still difficult to sell, causing heavy losses for vegetable growers. Now the market is stronger, many types of vegetables have increased in price many times, creating motivation for people to take care of them and prepare new land for planting,” Ms. Ho Thi Quyet shared.

On this occasion, in addition to green vegetables, there are also many tomato products. It is known that although tomato consumption is stable, the selling price has not improved compared to 1 month ago from 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh in Hamlet 8, Minh Luong Commune said: His family has grown 3 sao of tomatoes (Nong Huu tomato variety), and started harvesting right before Tet. Unlike previous years, tomatoes were sold at 8,000 VND/kg, this year the price has dropped to 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg, lasting from the time of harvest until now.

Mr. Ho Anh Dung - Chairman of Minh Luong Commune People's Committee said that the whole commune has more than 2,000 households producing over 380 hectares of various vegetables. This year, thanks to favorable weather, vegetables grew well, had a good harvest, and the estimated output reached more than 15,000 tons.
According to Mr. Dung, thanks to vegetables, local people have developed their economy . However, due to the abundant supply of vegetables in the market at times, it has affected the prices of all kinds of vegetables in the locality.
However, intensive vegetable and fruit cultivation is the traditional occupation of farmers here, so the situation of good harvest and low prices and vice versa often happens every year. Therefore, farmers do not stop production because of low prices, but on the contrary, they continue to cultivate vegetables from season to season, with the motto of not letting the land fall asleep.

Researching the market in some other vegetable growing areas in Dien Chau district shows that vegetables in the fields are purchased more strongly by traders, and the selling price is also on the rise significantly compared to the time after Tet. Therefore, vegetables are consumed as soon as they are harvested.
As soon as the harvest is over, people turn to work the land to plant again, so at any time, the coastal area of Quynh Luu always has vegetables to sell to the market. Photo: Quang An
The coastal area of Quynh Luu district has a specialized vegetable growing area of over 600 hectares, considered the largest vegetable granary in the province. Each season has its own produce, thanks to experience in intensive cultivation of vegetables, tubers and fruits, farmers here grow high-yield vegetables all year round, always having goods to sell to the market in large quantities.
Therefore, this coastal area is always bustling with farmers planting, tending and harvesting vegetables. There are times when vegetables are priced well, each hectare of harvest can bring in hundreds of millions of VND per crop.
