On August 23, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, received Ms. Penny Wong, Australian Foreign Minister who is visiting and working in the city.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen highly appreciated the significance of the Australian Foreign Minister's visit and work in Vietnam, which will create new momentum for bilateral relations in the context of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2018-2023).
Over the past half century, Vietnam-Australia relations have developed strongly, with good ties and increasingly deep political trust, and cooperation activities have been increasingly extensive, practical and effective in many fields.
Ho Chi Minh City leaders highly appreciated and thanked Ms. Penny Wong for her attention and support in promoting the cooperative relationship between the city and Australian partners.
Ho Chi Minh City and Australian partners have had good cooperative relationships in the fields of investment, education and health.
Ho Chi Minh City hopes to further strengthen cooperation with Australian partners in areas such as high-quality human resource training, energy conversion, urban infrastructure development, and climate change response.

According to Foreign Minister Penny Wong, looking back at 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, Australia is proud of its efforts to promote bilateral relations, including upgrading the relationship to a Strategic Partnership, creating a foundation for the two countries to more strongly promote cooperation activities between the two countries in all fields.
Australia always identifies Ho Chi Minh City as an important element in the bilateral relationship between Australia and Vietnam; always wishes to continue to promote close cooperation activities with the city in areas of mutual interest.
Acknowledging the cooperation proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City leaders, Ms. Penny Wong said that the Australian Government has just decided to provide 105 million AUD for activities to support climate change and clean energy, including programs implemented in the Mekong Delta region.
In addition, Australia wishes to work with Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, to build a legal framework for educational cooperation between the two sides, creating favorable conditions for Australian academies and universities to open facilities in the city and promote student exchanges between the two countries.
During her visit and work in the city, Ms. Penny Wong will meet and talk with students of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.
