What is the Bib Gourmand category?
In the second announcement of Michelin Guide in Vietnam, the list of Bib Gourmand category in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has a total of 42 dining establishments, including 18 establishments in Hanoi (including 5 new establishments) and 24 establishments in Ho Chi Minh City (including 8 new establishments).

The list has been widely shared by netizens. What criteria did Michelin use to select these restaurants for the "good, affordable" category?
Regarding the Bib Gourmand category, Michelin Guide said that since 1997, this category has been awarded to restaurants and eateries that serve a 3-course meal including appetizer, main course and dessert of good quality at a reasonable price, or in other words, diners feel "worth the money".
As for the price point for Bib Gourmand consideration, according to the Michelin Guide, it varies from country to country, depending on the cost of living, but inspectors always look for the same high quality, no matter where in the world. Specifically in Vietnam, a restaurant or eatery serving a meal for about 400,000 VND or less will be considered for Bib Gourmand, according to the Michelin Guide.
The menu at Ganh beef stew restaurant was honored by Michelin for the first time in the Bib Gourmand category.
"The common point of Bib restaurants is a simpler cooking style, easily recognizable and easy to eat. Bib Gourmand restaurants will also leave you feeling satisfied because you have eaten well at a reasonable price," Michelin Guide affirms.
Michelin also added that while it may not be as prestigious as a Michelin star, the Bib Gourmand is extremely popular with its followers and inspectors who spend a lot of time looking for these restaurants and eateries. This prestigious award proves that good food does not necessarily come with a hefty price tag.
The list of 24 restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City in this year's "delicious, affordable restaurants" list ranges from popular restaurants such as Bun Bo 14B, Bo Kho Ganh restaurant, Ba Ghien broken rice... to high-end restaurants such as Hum Garden, Man Moi, Cuc Gach Quan...
What other categories have not been announced?
On June 27, at the Michelin Guide Announcement Ceremony for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, the Bib Gourmand award-winning dining establishments in Da Nang, Vietnam's newest destination added to the Michelin Guide list, will be revealed.
Important award categories including Michelin Stars, Michelin Selected and Michelin Guide Special Awards will be announced at the event.
Last year, in its first appearance in Vietnam, Michelin Guide honored 103 restaurants/eateries with 4 award categories, including 4 prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants, 70 Michelin Selected restaurants/eateries, 29 Bib Gourmand restaurants, and 3 Michelin Guide Special Award winners.
Accordingly, the restaurants that have achieved one Michelin star for "high quality dishes, worthy of diners stopping to enjoy" are Anan Saigon restaurant, Gia restaurant, Hibana by Koki restaurant of Capella Hanoi hotel and Tam Vi restaurant.
The meaning of Michelin stars
One star: "High-quality cooking, worth a stop!", according to the current Michelin Guide. One Michelin star may be the lowest award, but only a very small percentage of restaurants worldwide get it.
Two stars: "Excellent cooking, worth coming back for!" is a restaurant with two Michelin stars. Two-star restaurants always offer high-quality food and are owned by some of the best chefs with long reservation lists.
Three stars: "Outstanding cuisine, worth a special trip!". Three stars are awarded only to the best restaurants.
