On June 4, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, led the delegation; Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of Military Region 7; heads of agencies of the Ministry of National Defense and military branches, visited and worked in Phu Quy island district.
Working with the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and military units stationed on Phu Quy Island, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia and the delegation were reported by Comrade Le Quang Vinh, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the Phu Quy District People's Committee on the economic, social, defense, and security development of the district in the first 6 months of 2023. With a fleet of 1,560 large-capacity fishing vessels participating in fishing in all distant seas, combined with firmly protecting the sovereignty of the islands. Along with that, the exploitation output reached high, nearly 20 thousand tons, reaching nearly 70% of the plan; the number of tourists increased rapidly, with 64,879 people in 6 months; budget revenue reached over 50%, traffic infrastructure, seaports, boat anchorage areas, seafood services, and island protection embankments were solidly invested in with dual-use to serve economic and social development, combined with national defense when there is a situation. The locality has paid attention to building Phu Quy island into a solid defense area. The armed forces on the island regularly coordinate and practice joint combat plans to firmly protect the island. The combat works, battlefields, and forces have been invested in, improving the effectiveness of performing tasks for the troops. Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Commander of Military Region 7, and the heads of the military branches reported to the Deputy Chief of the General Staff on the coordination with the locality of Phu Quy island in building military units stationed on the island, especially in building the national defense posture, barracks, and taking care of the people and the armed forces stationed on the island. Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia praised and highly appreciated the attention, care, and facilitation of the Party Committee, government, departments, branches, and organizations of the island district for the armed forces to perform their tasks well. He requested that military units improve their combat readiness; coordinate and regularly practice plans to protect Phu Quy island, because this is an important area in the posture to protect the Fatherland. Inspecting combat duty at units stationed on the island, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff directed the units to regularly practice, train, strictly and effectively maintain the duty shifts, especially the units protecting the airspace and sea, absolutely not leaving any subjects in the scope of management. During the visit and inspection of Phu Quy island, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia gave gifts to encourage the officers, soldiers and people of Phu Quy island.
