On October 13, Vietnam’s first theatrical animated film – “Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island” was officially released to audiences nationwide. This is an important milestone, marking the transformation of Vietnamese animation – from online and television products to the film industry.

Memorable milestones of the Vietnamese animation industry

Before “Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island”, there were projects that were expected to change the landscape of the Vietnamese animation industry when they were released. Some projects include “I am Beto” (adapted from the short story of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh) or “Under the Tree: The Journey Back” (a project produced by Colory Animation Studio). However, for some reasons, these works have not been able to be released to Vietnamese audiences on the big screen. This is truly a big gap that causes disappointment for anyone who is looking forward to the development of Vietnamese animation.

Faced with such expectations, “Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island” has officially made its name in history, marking the milestone of “the first animated film shown in theaters in Vietnam”. The film is a product of Sconnect Vietnam - a unit with many years of experience in producing animated films on online platforms such as the short series Wolfoo, Clay Mixer, Luka,... which have received billions of views on YouTube.

The journey to bring Wolfoo from the small screen to the big screen was not easy, but Sconnect Vietnam was determined to achieve this goal to open the door for "made in Vietnam" animation in the domestic market.

Proud but still worried

When asked about the journey to bring the "billion-view wolf" Wolfoo to the big screen, the representative of the production unit "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" shared: "When we received the information that the film had passed all the censorship stages to officially launch to Vietnamese audiences, the whole crew was overwhelmed with emotion. After more than 3 years of gestation, "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" has completed its mission of bringing Vietnamese animation to the big screen. We are truly proud and excited that we can contribute to bringing Vietnamese animation closer to Vietnamese audiences."

However, behind that joy, the production team of "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" still has many concerns about the next plans. After the film was officially released, the crew continued to face the question of how to create not just one, but many more animated films for theatrical release. The release of "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" is a stepping stone for Sconnect in particular and Vietnamese animation production units in general to work together to help Vietnamese audiences have a more positive view of domestic animation.

To do that, besides trying to speed up the production progress, the crew of "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" must continuously research and test new production technologies, improve the content and script to bring the best quality films to Vietnamese audiences. Watching a film takes less than 2 hours, but to create and perfect it is a process of preparation and incubation for many years. Therefore, "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" can be considered a source of pride, not only for the production team but also for the entire Vietnamese animation industry.

First positive feedback from the audience

On the first day of its release, Wolfoo was introduced to Vietnamese audiences at cinema systems nationwide such as CGV, Galaxy, Lotte, etc. Although there are no official figures yet, "Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island" has received the first positive signs, especially from young audiences. Some cinema systems recorded a large number of viewers, mostly families with young children. The children were very attentive to the movie and felt excited because they could meet the "billion-view wolf" right at the theater, in a modern screening space.

"Billion-view wolf owner" Wolfoo received positive feedback from Vietnamese young audiences.

“Wolfool owner with billion views” Wolfoo received positive feedback from Vietnamese young audiences. The positive feedback from young audiences has proven the strong attraction of Wolfoo and the right direction of the production team. The premiere of “Wolfoo and the Mysterious Island” is not simply a commercial event, but also a breakthrough step to change the prejudice of Vietnamese audiences about domestic animated films: “Vietnamese people can absolutely create quality animated films!”.
