On May 17, the movie “The 8 Show” by Han Jae Rim - famous director of the historical film “Physiognomy” (2013) and the action film “Emergency Landing” (2021) will officially premiere to the audience.
However, the work became a hot topic even before its official release due to many controversies related to its cast and director.
The film marks Bae Seong Woo's first appearance since being caught driving drunk in November 2020. At that time, he was fined 7 million won ($5,120) and banned from KBS and MBC.
At the press conference, the actor apologized to the public for disappointing everyone with his actions. He admitted that his appearance could cause inconvenience to the crew, however, he worked with the hope that it would not happen.
Explaining the reason why Bae Seong Woo appeared in the project, the director said that the actor was very suitable for the role. However, the way Han Jae Rim called Bae Seong Woo "older brother" showed the close relationship between the two, and this was also the reason why the audience had many mixed opinions.
Another actor caught up in controversy is Ryu Jun Yeol. In addition to being criticized for having a “transit love” relationship (a person who has just broken up with an ex and is now dating someone new), he has been caught up in controversy for being an ambassador for the environmental organization Greenpeace but enjoying playing golf - a sport that has a negative impact on the environment.
Speaking about this, Han So Hee's ex-boyfriend said: "At that time, many posts appeared on social media about my private life.
Rather than replying to every single post, I figured it would be best to just keep quiet and take the criticism. Dating and breakups are personal issues, so I’ll talk about them in a place where I can share these stories.”
Not only that, the film's director was also rumored to be dating actress 21 years younger - Lee Yeol Eum but denied it.
“I saw the article and wondered why such a story was created. We are very close, but we are not dating,” Han Jae Rim said.
However, despite the explanations from the director and cast, the controversy surrounding them continues. The media assesses that this will be a difficult start for “The 8 Show”.
If the movie doesn't have a good story and good acting, it will likely fall into a gloomy state, with no one interested like the previous movie "Goodbye Earth" starring Yoo Ah In and Ahn Eun Jin.
