(Fatherland) - Vung Ro National Historical Relic Site is oriented to become a cultural and historical tourism destination with majestic natural scenery.
On August 14, the People's Committee of Phu Yen province announced that it had approved the outline of the project to upgrade and restore the Vung Ro National Historical Site.
Vung Ro unnumbered wharf is a historical site in the resistance war against the US, saving the country, receiving more than 200 tons of weapons and goods from the North to support the Southern battlefield. With that historical significance, in June 1997, Vung Ro was ranked as a national historical relic.
Vung Ro historical relic site was built and completed in March 2021, with an area of about 1 hectare, located on Ca Pass, in Dong Hoa Town, Phu Yen Province.
Within the historical site, there is a monument in the shape of an unnumbered ship, a memorial house for martyrs, reliefs depicting historical events of the ships, traces in the water where soldiers destroyed ships to keep secrets,...
According to the decision, the project aims to preserve and promote the value of the national historical relic Vung Ro in a sustainable and synchronous manner, serving local socio-economic development.
Specifically, the historical site of Vung Ro will become a sacred place to commemorate the historical events of Vung Ro, a sacred place for all classes of people inside and outside the province to come to commemorate and remember the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation. This will be the place to hold ceremonies on important national holidays; organize activities, educate the pride in the history of building and defending the country of previous generations.
The unnumbered wharf is also oriented to become a cultural and historical tourist destination with the majestic natural scenery of Vung Ro to introduce to the people of the whole country and international tourists the natural beauty along with a legend in the history of the Vietnamese people's fight against foreign invaders.
Vung Ro Bay has a water surface of 1,640 hectares, the depth can receive ships with a capacity of over 5,000 tons, and is protected by high mountains. In just a short period of time, from November 1964 to February 1965, Vung Ro wharf welcomed four No-Number Ships.
The fourth ship (ship 143) arrived at the port on the night of February 15, 1965 and was discovered by the enemy. To ensure the secrecy and safety of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, our army had to use explosives to sink the ship in the Bai Chua area, not letting the ship fall into enemy hands.
Previously, in December 2023, the People's Committee of Phu Yen province approved the Master Plan for preserving and promoting the value of relics in the province for the period 2023 - 2030, with the goal of preserving and promoting the value of relics in the area in a sustainable and synchronous manner, serving the socio-economic development of the locality. In particular, focusing on relics with potential for tourism development, especially relics of the type of scenic spots.
