A 500-year-old honey tree located in the Ky Anh Tunnels historical relic site in Quang Nam has just been recognized as a "Vietnam Heritage Tree".
The rội mật tree in Thạch Tân village is over 500 years old, located in the historical relic of Kỳ Anh Tunnels. The tree has a base circumference of 2.7m and is over 26m high. According to local people, in the past, this rội mật tree was a place where people rested after farming hours and participated in cultural activities. During the resistance war against French colonialism, the rội mật tree was a place to practice the "elimination of illiteracy" movement.
During the resistance war against the US, guerrillas often climbed up to observe the enemy's march to signal our troops to escape through the creeks and from there go down to the tunnels to hide. Because the rôi mật tree is tall in the middle of the swamp, the forest trees are low, so it has to withstand many bombs and artillery fire from the enemy. However, the tree still stands firm like the steadfast hearts of the people of Tam Ky.
Today, the honey tree and Ky Anh tunnels are places of visit for many people to better understand a difficult but glorious period of the nation...
