According to Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong, nowadays, students are often exposed to the internet, email, and social networks, so taking the time to write a letter and express their thoughts in neat handwriting on a piece of paper is a very meaningful act.

Moreover, these letters have a profound impact on students, the young generation, when they put their own thoughts on international issues of concern, to speak up for the young generation and offer solutions to solve these problems.

The Deputy Minister of Information and Communications added that in 35 years of participating in the UPU International Letter Writing Competition, Vietnam has won 17 prizes, including 5 international prizes for Da Nang students. This is an honor for Vietnamese students in general and a source of pride for Da Nang students in particular.

In particular, Nguyen Do Quang Minh, a student at Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (Da Nang) won the first national prize in the 53rd UPU International Letter Writing Competition. That is also the reason why the organizing committee chose Da Nang to hold the launching ceremony of this year's UPU International Letter Writing Competition.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong, every year, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) often chooses a prominent issue, a global and humane issue to propose the theme of the competition. The 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition in 2025 has the theme: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone, explaining why and how they should take good care of you and protect you.”

The Deputy Minister shared that this is a current topic in the world. Currently, all countries in the world are joining hands to protect the environment, especially the ocean. The Deputy Minister hopes that students will freely create meaningful letters.

According to the organizers, with this year's theme, students were transformed into the ocean to raise issues they are facing, the most prominent of which is marine pollution.

Children can use their unlimited imagination and creativity to talk, confide, remind people about the role of the ocean as well as share specific solutions and actions to protect the ocean, sea and marine ecosystem; demonstrate the responsibility of people, especially the young generation, in preserving nature for sustainable development.

Announcing the rules and technical instructions for writing a letter in the correct format, journalist Do Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper, informed: Participants are Vietnamese students from 9 to 15 years old (at the time of sending the letter to the contest).
