On New Year's Eve, tens of thousands of people and tourists flock to the central area to have fun and watch fireworks. The Bach Dang Wharf Park area, Ton Duc Thang Street (District 1) is where people gather the most because this is a beautiful location to watch fireworks at the beginning of the Saigon River Tunnel.

The Nguyen Hue Flower Street area is also bustling with fun activities to welcome spring before, during and after New Year's Eve. In addition, many families dressed up in their best costumes to capture New Year's moments in other areas such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Ho Chi Minh City Book Street...

Very early, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh (42 years old, living in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) went with his wife and 2 daughters to the central area to welcome the New Year together. He shared: “At noon, my family made offerings early and after finishing dinner on the 30th, the whole family went out to see the streets, went to Nguyen Hue Flower Street to see the dragon, flowers and fireworks at Bach Dang Wharf Park before returning home… My family tries to maintain this habit every year so my children are very happy. The whole day on the 30th, we were busy choosing the most beautiful clothes to go out to welcome the New Year.”

Returning to Vietnam 10 days before Tet, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Phung (Vietnamese Canadian) expressed her excitement when watching fireworks and welcoming the New Year in Ho Chi Minh City with her family. Celebrating Tet in her hometown for the second time after many years of settling abroad, Ms. Phung said this Tet was really fun for her.

“It’s very meaningful, the whole family goes for a walk, goes to the book street, the flower street, and watches the fireworks on New Year’s Eve together. Even though everyone is very crowded and it’s a bit difficult to move around, the joy of the New Year with relatives is greater. Every time I return to Vietnam on special occasions like Tet, I always want to go together with my parents, children and grandchildren like that. I hope my city will develop more and more in the new year. I wish everyone in the year of the dragon good health, peace and everything goes as planned.”

On the night of the 30th of Tet, traffic in Ho Chi Minh City was not overloaded. Only in the central area during rush hour to welcome the New Year, people flocked so much that some surrounding roads were partially congested.

Traffic congestion and slow movement mainly occur on some routes such as Ton Duc Thang, Dong Khoi, Hai Ba Trung... because these routes lead to places where you can watch fireworks.

In addition to watching fireworks, on New Year's Eve, people in the central area can also enjoy many lion dances, singing and dancing performances... organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City at Nguyen Hue Walking Street (parallel to Nguyen Hue Flower Street). In particular, people in Can Gio district can also enjoy the New Year's art program performed by artists from the city.
