Launched in 1998 under the name "Drawing from books", the contest initially had 1,600 children participating in drawing individual pictures on A3 paper to encourage reading and going to the library. Over the past 28 years, Net Ve Xanh has attracted hundreds of thousands of students from kindergarten to high school, including children from shelters, open houses, and specialized schools.

The contest is constantly expanding, contributing to training thinking, promoting artistic talent, helping students express themselves and create art. With the enthusiastic response from students, parents and teachers, Net Ve Xanh has become a familiar cultural activity, promoting the children's painting movement in Ho Chi Minh City.
This year, the contest has two forms: Drawing on the computer (with 389 entries, 78 entries in the final round); Drawing directly at the local examination councils (with 30,000 contestants, 2,213 entries in the final round, 729 students continue to participate in the city-level final round).
In particular, in addition to the categories of A3 paper painting, group painting on canvas, and computer painting, this year Green Net has added a new category of short story writing through pictures (with 21 groups entering the final round).

After 3 months of organizing the preliminary round in 21 districts and Thu Duc City, the final round will take place on the morning of March 23 at the General Science Library (District 1) and Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School. The closing and award ceremony will take place on April 27, 2025.
