Korean cars maintain competitive advantage in Vietnam

(HNMO) - Although there were no outstanding car models last month, while also witnessing a decline in total sales, Hyundai - along with its Korean "brother" KIA - continues to be the manufacturer favored by Vietnamese consumers at this time.

With abundant supply thanks to domestic assembly plants,
Hyundai has a more stable "performance" than other car manufacturers in Vietnam.

Specifically, according to statistics, the Korean brand (currently manufactured and assembled in Vietnam by TC Motor) sold 4,592 vehicles of all kinds to Vietnamese consumers in April 2023, a sharp decrease compared to 5,773 vehicles in March.

Thus, since the beginning of the year, Hyundai has sold 19,328 vehicles of all kinds in the domestic market, also the highest level. The company's best-selling model is the Accent. Although not too new, this small sedan is performing well partly due to the generation change of its main competitor, the Vios, which has led to a temporary narrowing of supply.

For its part, Toyota came in second with 4,247 vehicles sold last month, bringing the total number of vehicles sold this year to 17,813, with the best-selling model being the Corolla Cross.

Among the car manufacturers present in Vietnam, only VinFast and Honda saw an increase in sales last month. Of these, the third-place Vietnamese carmaker recorded 3,798 units delivered to customers, thanks to a surge in deliveries of the VF e34 and VF 8. This new achievement is four times the 915 units in March.

However, VinFast's total car sales in 2023 are still quite modest compared to its competitors, reaching only 5,487 cars, which is only higher than Suzuki in the group of 10 companies selling the most cars.

For its part, Honda ranked 7th, selling only 1,944 cars, mainly thanks to the outstanding growth of Honda City (accounting for nearly 60% of sales). The remaining names in the best-selling group were Ford, KIA, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, etc.

The "tiny" crossover Sonet is KIA's best-selling model in Vietnam at the moment.

In terms of total vehicle sales so far in 2023, in addition to the two "giants" Hyundai and Toyota mentioned above, the next manufacturers with good sales are Ford (11,966 vehicles), KIA (11,256 vehicles), and Mazda (9,028 vehicles).

Thus, in the top 5 names, it is easy to see that the number of cars sold by the two Korean brands is still completely overwhelming the two Japanese competitors.

The above results also show that THACO - which assembles and distributes Mazda, KIA, Peugeot, BMW, etc. - is the company that sells the most cars in Vietnam at the moment.
