Dan Phuong receives National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Village Kite Festival"

On the afternoon of April 12, Dan Phuong district held a ceremony to receive the National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Village Kite Festival" and the Certificate of recognition of the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft" for the flute kite making craft of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune, Dan Phuong district.

The ceremony was attended by former members of the Party Central Committee: Former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Ba Ty, former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong. On the Hanoi side, there were Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee Dang Thi Phuong Hoa.

Ba Duong Noi village is known as the only locality in the country that has a kite festival associated with the Chau Tho God Temple, elevating the cultural heritage with full rules and traditional rituals that are extremely unique and distinct. In addition, the craft of making flute kites in Ba Duong Noi village has existed since ancient times. Up to now, the flute kite club of the commune has been established and operates effectively, many households in the village have jobs and stable income from the flute kite making profession.

In 2024, the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival, Hong Ha commune, Dan Phuong district was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage and the Ba Duong Noi village kite making profession was recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee as a "Hanoi traditional craft".

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Dan Phuong District People's Committee Nguyen Van Duc said that receiving the title is an honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Dan Phuong district, especially the people of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune.

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Phuong district, in recent times, the locality has focused on promoting communication, promotion, and introducing the homeland, people, cultural heritages, traditional crafts, especially the local kite festival and kite making craft to domestic and international friends. Proactively applying, creatively and flexibly concretizing the guidelines and policies of the Party and State, resolutions and directives of the city on preserving and promoting the values ​​of cultural heritage and traditional crafts to the conditions and practical situations at the grassroots level.

In the coming time, local authorities will continue to research and plan cultural spaces, practice spaces, and experiences of Vietnamese cultural heritage and traditional crafts in Hanoi, aiming to plan Ba ​​Duong Noi village to become one of the "creative cultural spaces" of the capital Hanoi. Build the National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Kite Festival" to become a typical cultural heritage, imbued with the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation; the traditional craft of making flute kites in Hanoi has a lasting and strong vitality, not only creating jobs and stable income for people in Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune, but also for households in neighboring areas.

After the Ceremony of receiving the National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Village Kite Festival" and the Certificate of recognition of the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft", Hong Ha commune opened the Traditional Kite Flying Festival.

This year, the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival attracted 72 kites to compete. According to traditional rules, the kites that qualify for the competition must be at least 2.2m long, at least 0.6m wide, have 3 flutes (the flute diameter must be 2.5cm or more), the kites must not be covered with white glossy paper... and are flown in the village fields. The kites with the best flutes, that fly the highest and stand the most still... are the winning kites.
