Confirming with Dan Tri reporter on July 5, a representative of Vinh Phuc Department of Education and Training said that the incident occurred during the 6th grade student capacity assessment exam at Vinh Yen Secondary School, Vinh Phuc, school year 2024-2025, which took place on June 16.
"In this school exam, the math exam had a controversial question. Immediately after public opinion reflected, the Council re-checked the score to have fair results for students," a representative of the Vinh Phuc Department of Education and Training confirmed.
According to this unit, through this incident, the unit hopes to have the companionship, sharing and encouragement of parents and teachers for the students, especially the number of candidates whose scores were reduced after the re-examination; helping them to perceive the problem correctly, accept the correct answers and return the results/scores that are not theirs to become future citizens with honest qualities, self-respect and continue to make efforts and strive to assert themselves on the journey of learning and training.

In response to this incident, on July 5, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chung, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Yen City - Chairwoman of the Examination Council, wrote a letter of apology to the parents of the students.
In the letter, the Head of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Yen city said that in question 4 of the math subject of this exam, there is the content: "Every 4 years, An has a birthday. The birthday in 2024 is the third birthday that An's parents have organized for An since the day An was born. So what is the day, month, and year of An's birth ?
The four answers given include:
A. February 29, 2012
Β. 29/2/2016
C. 29/2/2021
D. February 28, 2016".
Based on public opinion information and instructions from the leaders of the People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training of the city, the inspection council has researched options and consulted with leading experts in mathematics at primary and higher levels.
This is considered a practical problem, it is necessary to consider practical factors when solving the problem and must ensure the goal of the general education program is "applying mathematics to practice".
The Council agreed: For question number 4, math subject in the test to assess the capacity of students entering grade 6 at Vinh Yen Secondary School, school year 2024-2025, the correct answer is: An's date of birth is February 29, 2012.

Previously, on June 16, Vinh Yen Secondary School and 8 key secondary schools of the province organized a capacity assessment test.
The competition ratio for grade 6 at Vinh Yen Secondary School this year is 1/4.4, the highest among key secondary schools.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Phuc, this year there have been many changes in the organization of the 6th grade capacity assessment test at key secondary schools. Schools no longer record fake applications due to a candidate registering at multiple schools at the same time like in previous years.
The reason is that the Department has agreed that 9 key secondary schools will organize a common assessment session. This means that the pressure of exams for 5th graders will be reduced compared to before.
