Hai Ba Trung District Department of Education and Training speaks out about suspected leak of gifted student exam questions

"The results of the review and verification show that the process of implementing the stages in building the district's excellent student exam questions for cultural subjects in grade 9 for the 2024-2025 school year in general and Mathematics in particular was carried out in accordance with regulations. There was no leaking of exam questions, and no individual or department was found to have leaked information about the exam questions to the outside," Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung District, affirmed at a press conference held this afternoon (November 1).

Previously, public opinion reported that the math exam for grade 9 students in Hai Ba Trung district (held on October 29) was exactly the same as the review exam of Trung Vuong Secondary School, Hoan Kiem district (supposedly announced on October 25) and another review exam for Dong Da district. The Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung district immediately summoned responsible members to check and verify.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung district has worked with Truong Vuong Secondary School regarding the suspicion of leaked exam questions. After verification, the school confirmed that there was no such exam question. Regarding the exam question stating Dong Da district, Mr. Tam said that this could be a photoshopped image, with the purpose of confusing public opinion.

Regarding the process of making exam questions for gifted students in grade 9 in general and Math in particular, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung district invited experts with experience in training and making exam questions for gifted students from educational institutions outside the district to participate in supporting the making of exam questions by subject, according to the exam matrix and program limits that the Department has built. The Department also invited experts and key teachers to coordinate in reviewing the exam questions to ensure that the exam questions ensure accuracy and meet the requirements of the gifted student exam questions.

After completing the exam preparation stage, all exam papers are sealed and sent to the head of the exam committee, then handed over to the exam printing and proctoring committee to carry out the exam organization. These stages are carried out seriously by the District Education and Training Department, following the correct procedures and keeping them confidential according to regulations.

All members participating in the tasks of the committees are established and assigned tasks by the decision of the Head of the District Department of Education and Training. The members of the committees commit to take responsibility for the accuracy and confidentiality of the exam.

In Hai Ba Trung district, the teachers invited to create math questions are teachers from other districts and do not directly teach review in Hai Ba Trung district. In addition to creating questions, the teachers also support the Department of Education and Training in building review programs when forming district teams to compete at the city level. This is a method that the Department has implemented for many years.

At this time, the relevant departments are urgently implementing the exam marking work. According to the expected plan, the results of the district-level 9th grade excellent student exam will be announced on November 11.

To ensure objectivity, fairness and seriousness for the exam, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung district will continue to grasp information, verify the incident, and at the same time strengthen inspection and supervision of exam marking as well as other stages to ensure proper implementation of exam regulations.

"If any errors are found, the Department will handle them seriously, in accordance with regulations and ensure the best interests of students participating in the exam," said Mr. Tam.

The exam to select excellent students of grade 9 for the 2024-2025 school year of Hai Ba Trung district took place on October 29 at the exam site of Ngo Quyen Secondary School with the participation of 698 students from 18 public and non-public secondary schools in the district. Students took the exam in 9 subjects including: Literature, Mathematics, History and Geography, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, Information Technology, English, French, and Japanese. Of which, 78 students took the exam in Mathematics.
