Reporter : What do you think about your friendship with People's Artist Bach Tuyet?
- Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien: A lasting, close friendship. At that time, I was singing in the province, Bach Tuyet was living in the city, but whenever I had a chance to go back to the city to visit my mother and children, I would take a cyclo to visit Bach Tuyet's house. The two sisters ate, drank, and chatted about life and work until late afternoon when Bach Tuyet let me go home.
Sometimes when she misses me, Bach Tuyet calls and says: "Hien, please recite a line for me to listen to." So I recite a line in the style of Hue folk songs, this is my creation, so Bach Tuyet likes it very much. We have overcome many ups and downs in the singing profession, today we just want to pass on all our experience to the younger generation.
Up to now, when you participated in the Cai Luong Academy organized by People's Artist Bach Tuyet and the young team, what is your comment?
- Through each round, the students have learned many valuable lessons. I am proud to have a colleague who is always dedicated, not just talking but rushing forward, doing his best to create a place for the younger generation to develop their creativity. This playground will be a valuable information channel for those who are passionate about reformed opera to understand correctly and do correctly before entering the professional acting profession.
Do you have any unforgettable memories with People's Artist Bach Tuyet?
- Back then, Snow White bought me a pair of valuable and beautiful diamond earrings. My life after leaving the provincial troupes, then encountered an incident during a tour when my boat capsized, causing me to burn my arm, forcing me to stop singing for nearly a year to treat the wound. Life was very difficult at that time, but I still did not sell my friend's memories.
And now every time we meet, I wear those earrings. Even the ao dai and ao ba ba that Snow White made for me, I still keep them to this day.
What I hope for is that at the age of nearly 80, we can still "perform shows" together, and then participate in passing on the profession to the younger generation. That is the great blessing that the profession has given us. I only hope that both of us will still have enough health to do this meaningful work well, contributing to preserving the Cai Luong stage - a precious gem of Southern art.
