Efforts to provide safe domestic water

Việt NamViệt Nam10/05/2024

Implementing the safe water supply program, in recent years, the province has had many solutions to provide stable water quantity, ensure quality, and control risks. Thanks to that, the rate of people using clean, hygienic water is increasing, contributing to improving the quality of life and protecting people's health.

Officers and employees of Phu Tho Water Supply Joint Stock Company operate modern equipment systems to produce clean water and provide safe water.

Currently, the source of domestic water supply for rural areas in the province is mainly through centralized and small-scale water supply works. According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has 144 centralized rural domestic water supply works put into use, including 98 self-flowing water supply works, 46 water supply works by pump, of which enterprises manage 21 works, commune People's Committees and cooperatives manage 28 works, and communities manage 95 works. By the end of 2023, the rate of households using hygienic water in the province will reach 98.7%.

As the agency in charge of implementing safe water supply, improving the efficiency of exploitation and sustainable use of concentrated rural clean water supply works of the province, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a document requesting the People's Committees at district level, enterprises, and units managing and exploiting rural domestic water supply works to organize the implementation of safe water supply, preventing loss and loss of clean water revenue in the area according to the plan of the Provincial People's Committee.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department has requested the People's Committees at the district level to strengthen the direction of specialized departments to regularly inspect and urge the units managing and operating water supply works to focus on making plans for safe water supply, preventing loss and loss of clean water for the water supply system under their management; arrange funds to fix and repair, ensuring the works operate effectively... For enterprises, management and exploitation units with surface water exploitation works with a scale of over 100m3/day and night, they must install monitoring equipment to monitor the flow and quality of water during exploitation. At the same time, coordinate with relevant units to ensure the safety of water supply works, properly implement decisions approving the scope of the sanitary protection zone of the water intake area...

In recent times, the province has mobilized resources from the local budget, capital sources for clean water and rural sanitation, and socialized resources to implement policies, invest in the construction of centralized clean water works, and increase the proportion of people using clean water. Departments, branches, and localities have stepped up propaganda and raised awareness for people to use safe and economical clean water, while supporting poor households and disadvantaged families to access preferential loans to build new, upgrade, and repair clean water and hygienic water works...

Comrade Nguyen Hai Son - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cam Khe district said: "In October 2023, the centralized clean water supply project in Tung Khe commune with a designed capacity to provide clean water for 6,000 households in 4 communes: Tam Son, Van Ban, Tung Khe, Cap Dan, invested by the Irrigation Sub-Department, was completed and put into use, solving the shortage of clean water for daily life of local people, increasing the rate of people in the district using clean, hygienic water to 98.7%".

According to the plan to implement the National Strategy for Clean Water Supply and Rural Sanitation by 2030, with a vision to 2045, the province strives to have 50% of the rural population using clean water that meets standards with a minimum quantity of 60 liters/person/day by 2030 and increase to 80% by 2045. To achieve the set goal, the province continues to implement synchronous solutions, focusing on developing clean water supply and rural sanitation infrastructure in accordance with the customs and specific conditions of each region and locality; promoting socialization, attracting all resources to participate in investment in construction, management and operation of clean water supply works to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
