Prolonged heavy rain, floods on rivers in Quang Ngai rise

(NLDO)- Flood water levels are rising rapidly in rivers in Quang Ngai, especially Tra Cau River, which is close to reaching alert level 3.

On the afternoon of December 15, Quang Ngai Hydrometeorological Station issued an urgent flood notice on Ve River and Tra Cau River.

Currently, the water level of the Ve River at 1:00 p.m. at Song Ve station is 3.4 m, 0.1 m below alarm level 2; on the Tra Cau River it is 5.34 m, 0.16 m below alarm level 3.

It is forecasted that in the next 6-12 hours, the flood on Tra Cau River at Tra Cau station will fluctuate at a high level, the Ve River at Song Ve station will continue to rise and peak, then slowly recede. In the next 12-24 hours, the flood on Tra Cau River and Ve River will slowly recede.

Duc Pho town authorities support people whose houses were deeply flooded during the flood on Tra Cau river on the morning of November 24, 2024.

Risk of flash floods, landslides on steep slopes, along rivers and streams, flooding of culverts and spillways in mountainous districts such as Tra Bong, Son Ha, Son Tay, Ba To and Minh Long.

Widespread flooding in low-lying areas, low-lying areas, riverside areas in some localities of Nghia Hanh, Tu Nghia, Mo Duc districts and Duc Pho town, especially the downstream of Tra Cau river (wards: Pho Ninh, Pho Van, Pho Thuan, Pho Minh ...); Ve river (communes of Duc Nhuan, Duc Loi, Duc Thang, Nghia Hiep, Nghia My, Hanh Tin Tay, Hanh Tin Dong, Hanh Thinh, Hanh Thien, Hanh Phuoc ...); Phuoc Giang river (communes of Hanh Dung, Hanh Nhan, Hanh Minh, Hanh Duc ...); many places are flooded over 1 meter deep.

Heavy floods can damage or completely collapse bridges, culverts, and drainage systems, affect aquaculture ponds with low embankments, and seriously pollute people's domestic water sources.

According to the Quang Ngai Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours (from 1:00 p.m. on December 14 to 1:00 p.m. on December 15), Quang Ngai province had moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain, especially in mountainous areas, with some places up to more than 260 mm.
