According to information from the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), the country will export 2.8 million tons of seafood to the world in 2024.

Vietnam is considered one of the important markets with more than 72,000 tons of seafood (up 16% compared to the previous year), reaching a value equivalent to 252 million USD (about 6,300 billion VND). Particularly, Norwegian salmon products imported into Vietnam exceeded 24,000 tons.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Åshild Nakken, NSC's Southeast Asia regional director, said that Vietnam ranks fifth in the group of fastest growing markets globally for Norwegian seafood, after China, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

In addition to salmon, Norwegian seafood products popular with Vietnamese people also include brown crab, king crab, mackerel, etc.

“The impressive growth in Norwegian seafood exports to Vietnam reflects the vibrant development of Vietnamese cuisine and the growing demand for premium, sustainably harvested seafood products,” said Åshild Nakken.

In 2024, NSC signed many cooperation agreements with local businesses, aiming to expand the supply of premium Norwegian seafood in retail and food service channels in Vietnam.

On March 18, NSC participated in the Food & Hospitality exhibition in Hanoi, creating opportunities to connect Norwegian seafood producers and Vietnamese businesses.

Sharing at the event, Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Hilde Solbakken said: "We see that Vietnam is planning to expand marine aquaculture and Norway has a lot of experience in this field.

Therefore, we are continuing to dialogue with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to find out areas where we can share our experiences, thereby helping Vietnam develop its fisheries industry," Ms. Hilde Solbakken shared.

The Norwegian Ambassador also revealed that not only Vietnamese people like salmon, but Norwegians are also very fond of Vietnamese shrimp. Norway is a major export market for Vietnamese shrimp products.

Besides, coffee is also a popular Vietnamese agricultural product in the country that drinks the most coffee in the world.

The Norwegian Seafood Council is an agency of the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Seafood. The NSC cooperates with the Norwegian fishing and aquaculture industry to develop markets for Norwegian seafood, representing the entire Norwegian seafood industry as well as the country's seafood exporters.

In 2025, NSC will organize "Norwegian Salmon Academy" training courses in Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, to improve the skills of chefs and professionals in the seafood industry.
