Ms. K'Phi's family (K'Ho ethnic group, Tan Thanh commune, Lam Ha district, Lam Dong) had many difficulties. With her hard-working nature and determination to escape poverty, Ms. K'Phi has revived her economy, has enough to eat and save, and built a spacious level 4 house.
As the Head of the Women's Association of Village 9, Tan Thanh Commune, Lam Ha District, Ms. K'Phi is always a pioneer in movement activities, enthusiastically helping female members improve their lives.
Previously, she was from N'Thol Ha commune (Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province). She graduated from the first general practitioner training course in Lam Dong province, but due to difficult circumstances, Ms. K'Phi did not work for the government but stayed home to help her family. She worked as a hired worker in Tan Thanh commune, Lam Ha district. After a period of living in this land, the village elder gave her 1 hectare of land for production, and she reclaimed a part of it for cultivation.
To develop the family economy, in 1992, Ms. K'Phi moved from N'Thol Ha commune to live and settle down in Tan Thanh commune. In the first years in the new land, Ms. K'Phi and her husband worked with their family on rice fields, growing potatoes and cassava to "make ends meet". Most of the family's cultivated area was devoted to growing and developing coffee trees. In order to increase income outside of coffee, Ms. K'Phi boldly chose a multi-cropping model (growing many types of plants at the same time) on an area of more than 2.5 hectares of production land.
Realizing that some coffee areas were old and unproductive, Ms. K'Phi boldly changed the direction of cultivation to promote the efficiency of crop productivity. Specifically, her family converted about 0.7 hectares of coffee to grow mulberry trees; the remaining coffee area gradually changed to the form of re-cultivation. During the re-cultivation process, when the coffee trees were still small, she intercropped corn, beans and yellow wax taro. At the same time, she took advantage of the border land and stream banks to grow grass, bananas, and papaya for raising livestock and poultry...
Thanks to growing mulberry and raising silkworms, Ms. K'Phi's family has a high income.
Up to now, Ms. K'Phi's family has been involved in the silkworm farming business for over 22 years and has become a spearhead in the family's journey of economic development and sustainable poverty reduction. "To develop the family economy and the silkworm farming business, in 2017, I boldly borrowed money from the bank along with my family's savings to invest in building a silkworm house with an area of 120 square meters. I bought silkworm farming tools with a total cost of 400 million VND," Ms. K'Phi happily said.
It is known that with the above area, the silkworm house of Ms. K'Phi's family can simultaneously raise over 3 boxes of silkworms/batch, in the form of raising on the floor. According to Ms. K'Phi's estimate, in recent years, when the raw material area is guaranteed, her family regularly raises over 30 boxes of silkworms/year, each box has an average of 70 kg of cocoons. Thus, each year, Ms. K'Phi's family supplies about 2,100 kg of silkworm cocoons to the market. With the current price of cocoons at about 225,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, her family earns over 40 million VND/month.
In Lam Dong market in recent years, the price of silkworm cocoons has always been stable at a high level and fluctuated around 200,000 VND/kg. With this selling price, the silkworm farming profession has helped Phi's family earn over 300 million VND/year, after deducting expenses.
In addition to the income from growing mulberry and raising silkworms, Ms. K'Phi's family's coffee garden replanted with high-yield varieties has also produced stable yields, with an average annual output of over 6 tons. In addition, Ms. Phi also raises 4 batches of ducks each year, each batch of 100 ducks, earning about 80 million VND/year.

Thanks to her determination to escape poverty and choose a suitable direction with a multi-cropping model, her family has gradually paid off all bank loans, had capital to build a house, and invested in building a spacious production facility.
In addition to being good at business and spreading the spirit of overcoming difficulties to become rich legitimately, Ms. K'Phi is also enthusiastic and active in participating in local social activities. With over 20 years as the Head of the Women's Association of Village 9, Head of the local capital lending group, Ms. K'Phi not only fulfills her assigned responsibilities well, but also "inspires" the spirit of overcoming difficulties to rise up in life for female members in the area. She is a spiritual support, always close, attentive, listening to the thoughts and aspirations of female members; actively helping and mobilizing women to unite, help each other develop family economy, implement gender equality...
Learning from K'Phi's family to grow mulberry and raise silkworms, many female members in the village have had stable lives, contributing to poverty reduction in the locality.
