Domestic coffee price list updated at 4:30 a.m. on February 23, 2025 |
During yesterday’s trading session (February 22), Arabica coffee prices fluctuated strongly, initially increasing but then gradually decreasing towards the end of the session, reaching a two-week low. The main reason for this price decrease was due to the recovery of inventories, causing pressure to liquidate long-term contracts in the Arabica coffee futures market.
According to ICE, arabica stocks have risen 3.9% over the past three trading sessions, reaching 787,999 bags on Friday (Feb. 21), recovering from a nine-month low of 758,514 bags on Tuesday (Feb. 18). Robusta stocks have also been volatile, reaching a more than four-month high of 4,603 lots on Jan. 31, but falling to a more than one-month low of 4,297 lots on Feb. 18. As of Friday, robusta stocks were at 4,322 lots.
With arabica prices high, many roasters have switched to cheaper robusta. Arabica prices appear to have lost steam after hitting a record $4.2995 a pound last week. Roasters are now holding enough inventory after heavy buying in recent weeks, while speculators are taking profits.
Traders are now focused on the outlook for the 2025-26 crop in Brazil, where arabica production is expected to fall sharply due to last year’s dry weather. While rainfall in November and December last year failed to reverse the damage, it did stave off worse, a Rabobank note said. While 2025 is expected to be drier than normal, rainfall is still forecast to be sufficient to maintain the current crop of cherries on the trees, assuming rain returns in the near term.
A Brazilian brokerage recently reported that coffee production for Brazil’s 2025-26 crop year is expected to reach 59.75 million bags, down about 8% from the current crop year. Of this, Arabica production is forecast to reach 36.46 million bags, down 16% from the previous crop year, while Robusta is expected to reach 23.29 million bags, up 8%. This total output is still conservative compared to the average of independent forecasts for 2025-26, which is estimated at 62.8 million bags.
In addition, Brazil’s coffee exports in 2025-26 are expected to reach 39.24 million bags, down 22% from the current crop year. Domestic consumption is also expected to decline by 4.5% to 20.9 million bags due to higher domestic prices.
With fluctuations in coffee prices and production prospects, the coffee industry is facing many challenges. Therefore, producers and roasters need to continue to monitor market conditions and weather trends to make appropriate adjustments.
