On April 6, the mother of Mr. Huynh Phu T. (42 years old, residing in Long Dien commune, Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province) said she was very surprised when the media reported that her son submitted an application to exploit 3 tons of gold under the Ca Ty river (Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan).
“My son once dreamed of a “treasure” and wanted to go find it, but I tried to stop him because it was baseless. I never expected him to do that. My husband was shocked when he heard the news,” Mr. T’s mother shared.
Neighbors near Mr. T.'s house said that this man previously raised shrimp but lost money. Recently, Mr. T. went to Binh Thuan to work as a sand pumper, then returned to his hometown to work as a salt carrier.
As reported, Mr. T. sent a petition to the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province and relevant agencies to exploit the "treasure" of 3 tons of gold under the Ca Ty river and receive 30% of the total assets collected, the rest will be handed over to the State.
According to the petition, Mr. T. said that his ancestor discovered that the Japanese army had buried about 3 tons of gold and valuables under the Ca Ty River, which flows through Phan Thiet City.
Mr. T. said that due to the long time, the documents and images no longer exist. Currently, information about the "treasure" has been passed down to him and only he knows the location. Therefore, if Binh Thuan province allows it, Mr. T. plans to coordinate with partners to exploit the "treasure".
For safety, Mr. T. proposed to have the police force protect and financial officers inventory the assets after exploitation. At the same time, if exploitation is approved, Mr. T. commits to deposit 500 million VND for environmental remediation and requests to receive it back after completion.
Regarding the above incident, the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province said that he had instructed Mr. T. on the request to exploit the "treasure" as presented. Accordingly, Mr. T. was asked to provide information, documents, images... to prove the location of the buried treasure; organize the development of an exploration plan; deposit a commitment to remedy the environment;...
Then, Mr. T. must send the above contents to the Department for verification and comparison. If the conditions are met, the Department will advise the Provincial People's Committee to consider and approve the plan according to regulations.
