Tourism experts say that the Rooster and Hen Islet in Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh, is an iconic destination and must be preserved and reinforced soon.
At the end of July, initial research results from the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources showed that Hon Trong Mai is at risk of collapsing if not protected soon. The Hon Trong Mai area has 40 blocks at risk of sliding and landslides, of which 11 blocks are on Hon Trong and 29 blocks are on Hon Mai.
Many experts say that Hon Trong Mai is the biggest tourist symbol of Ha Long Bay, so this famous landscape must be preserved.
Mr. Phan Dinh Hue, Director of Vietcricle Company, who is also an expert in the field of destination development, emphasized that Kien Giang province also owned a similar scenic spot, Phu Tu Islet. More than 10 years ago, when he led a group of foreign tourists here, they were all impressed by the beauty and unique shape of this islet. However, in 2006, the Phu (father) islet collapsed, leaving only Tu (child) islet.
According to Mr. Hue, there have been many proposals to restore Phu Tu Islet, but none of them are feasible because the rock that fell into the sea is very heavy, and even if it is pulled up, it is difficult to return it to its original state. The destruction of Phu Tu Islet, even due to natural factors, is a "great loss" to the local tourism industry. Therefore, preserving and maintaining Trong Mai Islet is "a must".

"In the future, even if we spend thousands of billions of dong, we still cannot imitate the inherent natural beauty," Mr. Hue said, emphasizing that in Ha Long Bay there are about 2,000 islands, but the Rooster and Hen Islet is an irreplaceable symbol.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat, General Director of AZA Travel, said that Ha Long Bay is "a symbol of Vietnamese tourism" and all natural or cultural heritages need to be preserved and conserved, even if they cannot last forever, they must be "preserved as long as possible".
"We cannot let the Rooster and Hen islands die on their own," said Mr. Dat.
From the perspective of a tour operator, he said that tour route number 1 (Port - Van Canh Park: Thien Cung, Dau Go, Hon Cho
Rocks, Ba Hang Cave, Dinh Huong Islet, and Trong Mai Islet are always the most popular with tourists when coming to Ha Long Bay. Statistics from the Ha Long Bay Management Board also show that more than 50% of visitors to Ha Long Bay visit route 1. Therefore, according to Mr. Dat, losing Trong Mai Islet will "have a significant impact on local tourism".
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), one of the most outstanding values of Ha Long Bay is "the towering limestone pillars, limestone islands rising from the sea with many different sizes and shapes, forming a majestic natural landscape, with a wild, picturesque beauty".
When talking about UNESCO World Heritage Sites, IUCN commented that "these are the most important protected areas in the world". However, these heritage sites are under pressure from climate change, invasive species and the impact of tourism. Therefore, protecting heritage sites is a collective responsibility, from leaders to indigenous people.
Responding to VnExpress , a representative of the Ha Long Bay Management Board affirmed that there is always a policy to preserve the Trong Mai Islet area. This unit is preparing a report to send to the Provincial People's Committee to direct the establishment of a project to protect and reinforce Trong Mai Islet. A leader of the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Tourism said that Trong Mai Islet belongs to the Ha Long Bay World Natural Heritage, so "everyone has the responsibility to protect it".
