According to the list of the State Council of Professors, in terms of hometown, Ho Chi Minh City has only 11 candidates for professor and associate professor in 2024. Notably, there is only one candidate for professor.
That is Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan, born in 1976, from Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City, a candidate for professor of agriculture.

Mr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan has two university degrees, a bachelor's degree in rural engineering from Can Tho University in 1998; in 2021 he received a bachelor's degree in English language also from Can Tho University.
In 2002, Mr. Ngan received a master's degree in water resources engineering from the Free University of Brussels and the Catholic University of Leuven, Kingdom of Belgium.
In 2012, Mr. Ngan received his PhD in environmental technology and management from the Braunschweig University of Technology, Federal Republic of Germany.
Dr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan was recognized as Associate Professor of Agriculture in 2015.
Since 1999, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan has worked at Can Tho University. He has held many positions at the university such as researcher, lecturer, head of department, deputy head of department, and senior lecturer.
The main research directions of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan include low-cost waste treatment solutions applied to scattered waste sources; Converting agricultural waste into green energy towards a circular economy; Integrated water resources management.
He has published 137 scientific articles, of which 27 are in prestigious international journals; 12 books have been published, of which 5 are from prestigious publishers.
The youngest person from Ho Chi Minh City to be considered for the title of associate professor is Dr. Dang Hoang Phu, lecturer in the chemistry department, University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
Mr. Phu was born in 1989, hometown in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2011, he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

In 2014, he received his master's degree and in 2020 his doctorate, both in chemistry, from the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City).
The two main research directions of Dr. Dang Hoang Phu include studying the chemical composition of Vietnamese plants in the direction of screening biological activities; synthesizing derivatives of natural compounds in the direction of increasing cancer cell toxicity.
To date, Dr. Dang Hoang Phu has published 119 scientific articles and 4 scientific reports, of which 72 scientific articles are in prestigious international journals.
In 2018, Mr. Phu was one of 10 young talents nationwide to win the Golden Globe award.
