Associate Professor Dr. Mai Thanh Phong, Rector of the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) is one of four candidates for professorship in 2024 in the field of chemistry.

This method considers the academic criteria of 3 components with the weights of the 2024 National University Competency Test score accounting for 70%, the 2024 High School Graduation Exam score accounting for 20% and the High School Academic Score accounting for 10%.
The school also considers individual achievements (5%) and social activities, literature, sports and arts (5%).
Mr. Mai Thanh Phong was born in 1972, hometown in Duc Tho, Ha Tinh.
He received his bachelor's degree in chemical technology in 1994 from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (now Hanoi University of Science and Technology).
In 1998, he received his master's degree in environmental technology from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; and his doctorate in chemical processes and systems in Germany.
In 2013, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong was appointed and recognized as associate professor.
Before moving to work at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology in 2007, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong worked at the Center for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Region 3, Ho Chi Minh City; and was a lecturer in the Faculty of Chemical Technology at Hanoi University of Technology.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong has held the positions of lecturer, deputy head of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering; and director of the Technology Business Incubation Center.
From March 2014 to April 2018, Mr. Phong was vice principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. From May 2028 to present, he has been the principal of this school.
The two main research directions of Associate Professor Dr. Mai Thanh Phong include chemical reaction engineering (reaction kinetics, chemical thermodynamics) and materials for chemical engineering processes (separation, absorption, catalysis).
To date, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong has published 145 scientific articles, of which 123 are in prestigious international journals.
He was also granted 2 utility solution patents and published 3 training books.
In addition to Mr. Mai Thanh Phong, this year, managers of many universities in Ho Chi Minh City are also candidates for professor and associate professor.

Mr. Huynh Trung Hieu, born in 1975 in Dong Thap, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, is a candidate for professor of information technology.
Mr. Tran Trong Dao, born in 1981, from Quang Ngai, principal of Ton Duc Thang University, is a candidate for associate professor in automation.
