Meta AI's chatbot will support Vietnamese in the coming weeks and will be integrated into popular apps like Facebook and Instagram.
Meta has announced that its AI chatbot will be available in 21 new markets, after testing in the US and Australia. Users in the UK, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay and the Philippines will get Meta AI starting October 9, while Vietnam and other countries will follow in a few weeks. In Europe, the chatbot is not yet available due to the "unpredictable regulatory environment". Meta's AI assistant is capable of generating text and images from prompts. The most exciting feature, the character voice for the chatbot, is not yet ready. The company said it will roll it out in a separate roadmap but did not announce a specific time.

Meta's AI products are powered by the Llama 3.2 AI model. The new chatbot will be deeply integrated into popular apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. To call the AI chatbot, users can tap the "Create an AI" icon or type "@MetaAI" in a group chat, then enter a prompt for the chatbot. If you're wearing Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, you can say "Hey Meta" out loud. Meta AI on Messenger and Instagram has an additional Reimagine feature, which allows you to take photos using AI. People in a group chat can retouch photos by pressing/holding and typing a command. On Facebook, Meta AI can help users create birthday greetings, edit posts, and compose introductions for Dating profiles. On Reels, users can ask the chatbot to provide relevant videos based on specific queries. According to Reuters, technology companies are looking to attract users to AI products in many forms. In addition to introducing new features, platforms are racing to make AI chatbots speak multiple native languages. Meta aims to be available in 43 countries by the end of 2024, supporting dozens of different languages. With 500 million monthly users, Meta wants to become one of the most used AI platforms in the world.
Meta AI raises many privacy concerns
But Meta AI is also raising privacy concerns. Users across social media are spreading the "Bye Meta AI" campaign to protest social media using posts to train AI. Many famous sports stars and actors such as James McAvoy and Tom Brady have also voiced their support for this campaign. Meanwhile, in the UK, users who want to stop Meta from using Facebook and Instagram posts to train AI models must fill out a form to protest. Last week, Meta introduced the Movie Gen model, which allows users to create photos and videos with a prompt. Meta's AI can even create videos with just a portrait photo. A Meta spokesperson said the company has no plans to release Movie Gen to all users, as it did with its large language model Llama. The company is considering the individual risks of each model.
