To meet the market demand for the Lunar New Year, peach growers in Luu Vinh Son commune have mobilized workers to strip leaves and care for the trees. According to the farmers, the most suitable time to strip leaves is from the 17th day of the 11th lunar month onwards. This work must be done on time so that the tree can grow buds and nurture the peach buds, while also producing large, beautiful flower buds for the New Year.
Ms. Phan Thi Hoa (Kim Son village) - a person with 10 years of experience growing peach trees for Tet shared: "Peach growing requires investment and care all year round, but the month before Tet is very important. With the experience gained, on this occasion, the family mobilized 5 people to focus on stripping leaves, pruning branches, and clearing grass so that the peach trees can focus on nurturing the buds."
This year, Ms. Hoa’s family has 500 peach trees over two years old that can be sold. If the weather from now until the weekend is favorable, the family will complete the process of stripping the leaves from the peach garden.
According to peach growers in Luu Vinh Son commune, the most important issue for peach growing is still the weather. Ms. Tran Thi Tinh (Kim Son village) said: "The peach growing profession for Tet "success or failure" depends on December. If the weather is sunny during this period, the peach trees will bloom early, on the contrary, if the weather is cold continuously, the peach trees will be slow to bud. This year, the weather is quite favorable, so peach growers do not have to apply solutions to stimulate the trees to bloom like previous years."
Stripping peach leaves at this time will help the tree focus nutrients on making buds, ensuring that flower buds are abundant, even, large flowers, thick petals and beautiful colors.
With many years of experience in growing peach trees, Mr. Ho Sy Anh (Kim Son village) said: "Taking care of peach trees near Tet is extremely important, and is decisive for the success of the crop. Therefore, to have beautiful flowers during Tet, peach growers must strip the leaves a while in advance. This year, my family has 500 peach trees that can be sold. At this time, in addition to stripping the leaves, my family also regularly monitors the growth of the trees to have a suitable care regimen."
This year, people are very excited because the weather in recent days has not been too cold, nor too hot, so it has restrained the early blooming of peach blossoms.
The entire Luu Vinh Son commune currently has more than 600 households growing peach trees, with a total area of over 12 hectares. In years with favorable weather, each household can earn an average of 100 - 400 million VND from selling peach trees for Tet.
Peach growing has been associated with the people of Luu Vinh Son commune for decades. Peach trees are not only the main tree for household garden economy but also a "brand" for the locality. In recent years, the weather has been erratic, but with many years of experience in planting and caring for peach trees, the local peach trees are still growing well. Although it is only the 11th lunar month, traders have visited the garden and surveyed the price, so everyone is excited.
