The Ministry of Construction has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province regarding investment in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport.
Implementing the direction of the Government Standing Committee, the Ministry of Construction requested the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to direct units to urgently study and implement procedures to submit for approval the investment policy for the project to expand Phu Quoc International Airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) method according to regulations.
During the implementation process, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province closely coordinated with the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance to study and propose a plan to transfer aviation infrastructure assets to the province for management to implement the project.
In addition, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province will review and resolve the recommendations of interested investors and organize the selection of investors according to current regulations, ensuring the project's progress and meeting the needs of the APEC 2027 Summit Week.
Recently, Imex Pan Pacific Import-Export Company Limited and Sun Group Joint Stock Company have submitted proposals to the Government to register to invest in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport.
According to the document of Sun Group Corporation, Phu Quoc International Airport (Kien Giang) will have a 4E airport level, with a passenger terminal capacity of about 18-20 million passengers/year. The cargo terminal capacity is expected to be 50,000 tons/year and the VIP terminal scale is expected to be about 6,000m2 .
For runways and wings, Phu Quoc airport will renovate and upgrade the existing runway (runway 1) to 3,500x45m, plan a new runway (runway 2) to 3,500x45m, and synchronize the taxiway systems.
If selected as the investor, Sun Group commits to investing in Phu Quoc International Airport with the most modern technology in the world, completing the project within 16-18 months from the completion of site clearance.
