"In demand" in middle age
After nearly 20 years of absence from the big screen, Quyen Linh chose Hai Muoi as the project to mark his comeback at the age of 55. Sharing with us, Quyen Linh said that he lost nearly 30 kg, grew a long beard, and performed many dangerous scenes himself to have a satisfactory work.
"Riding on the victory", recently, Quyen Linh continued to be given the main role in the film Chot Don by directors Bao Nhan and Namcito. After a busy time as an MC for TV shows, the male artist's return to the big screen received the support of the audience. Many people expect the role of Mr. An in Chot Don to be an opportunity for Quyen Linh to bring many new things after a period of time away from the big screen.
Viet Huong - Hong Dao "juggle" well in the movie Sister-in-law
The case of artist Hong Dao is also proof that "the older the ginger, the spicier it is". Facing many challenges in terms of health as well as traveling between the US and Vietnam, the actress still showed her active activities in 2024 with a series of impressive roles. That is Mrs. Dao, who devoted herself to her children in the movie Mai (revenue of more than 500 billion VND) or Ba Ky - a well-educated, wealthy woman but deep inside are wounds that are difficult to heal in Sister-in-law. In each character, Hong Dao has her own way of expressing, creating highlights thanks to her acting experience.
Most recently, Hong Dao was introduced to play a role with Quyen Linh in Chot Don . Talking about her continuous participation in film projects, the female artist affirmed that when accepting any invitation, she always considers whether she can make the role different from previous characters. At the age of over 60, Hong Dao maintains her professional perspective: "When taking on any role, I have the responsibility to make it good, to help the film be the best it can be."
Artist Viet Huong, at the age of 49, also had a successful year in film when she played the role of Mrs. Le in Ma Da (revenue of over 127 billion VND) and the role of Hai Nhi in Chi Dau (revenue of over 90 billion VND to date).
Previously, People's Artist Kim Xuan attracted attention when she played the main role in the movie Blood Happiness at the age of over 70. Artist Thanh Hien also left an impression on the audience with the image of a hard-working mother who loves her child in Lat mat 7: Mot uoc . At the age of over 50, Le Giang brought home the prestigious award for Best Actress (film category) at Ngoi Sao Xanh for her role in Nha Ba Nu . She is also expected to continue to shine when she plays the main role in the movie Bo Tu Bao Thu by Tran Thanh during the upcoming Tet holiday.
Quyen Linh is in high demand when he decides to return to the big screen.
Challenges come with opportunities
To have impressive roles on screen and convince the public, in addition to the advantage of acting ability, they also have to face many challenges in terms of time, health or renewing themselves compared to previous characters.
Artist Viet Huong shared that to participate in film projects, she had to arrange her time, even asking for her husband's support in stage management, business, etc. Not to mention, health is also a matter that the female artist considers when participating in a project. Typically, with Ma Da , Viet Huong revealed that she had to spend time learning to swim, learn to dive, and had to soak in water all day to get satisfactory footage. "Soaking in water for too long made my facial muscles contract because of the cold. I had to do acupuncture and take supplements to gradually recover," the female artist said.
Quyen Linh shared that if in Hai Muoi , he had to lose more than 30 kg, then with Chot Don , the male artist gained 12 kg to fit the character. Although he had difficulty arranging his schedule as well as trying to "keep up" with the young cast, the father of two was happy because he had interesting experiences. "When acting with young people, I receive positive energy from them to heal myself in life," the male artist shared.
Talking about the reason for choosing Hong Dao and Viet Huong for the roles in the movie Sister-in-law, director Khuong Ngoc said that he "didn't give anyone a chance" but on the contrary, he needed the contribution of veteran artists in this project. "To be able to convince the sisters, you need a good script. I see that recently there are many scripts in which the main actors are getting older, and I personally like that too. Just creating diversity in the age of the main cast will give everyone the opportunity in terms of acting and the audience will also have many ages," the director commented on the brilliance of the artists.
