Nghe An has tornadoes and hail

For the past two days, border communes in the mountainous district of Ky Son have experienced hail for several dozen minutes, injuring one person and damaging houses and crops.

At around 5:00 p.m. on April 14, a tornado accompanied by hail swept through the communes of Bao Thang, Bao Nam, Huoi Tu... of Ky Son district for more than 20 minutes. The diameter of the hailstones was 1-2 cm, with some areas being more than 3 cm thick.

The storm caused a house in Sao Va village, Bao Thang commune to collapse. Mr. Oc Pho Thang was injured by a falling tile on his head and had to be taken to a medical facility for treatment. Several other families had their roofs blown off and their fences collapsed.

Previously, on the afternoon of March 13, in Huoi Tu and Muong Long communes, a tornado and hail also occurred for 15 minutes. Hailstones measuring 1-2 cm in diameter fell, causing more than 20 houses in Pha Xac and Huoi Kha villages to collapse, and many crop areas were severely damaged.

The leaders of Ky Son district said they are assigning commune officials to compile a detailed list of damages. For families whose houses collapsed, the government will provide support so they can soon stabilize their lives.

Hail often occurs in the North and Central regions during the transition from hot to cold (September-November) and from cold to hot (March-May). Ky Son district has high mountainous terrain and interwoven forests, which are ideal conditions for convection to develop strongly, forming cumulonimbus clouds and causing hail.
