Provincial mergers are a matter of public concern. Many people are even concerned about the loss of familiar brands associated with the locality...
Expanding development space
In recent days, on social networking forums and personal pages, many people have posted statuses or statuses related to the loss of long-standing local brands and trademarks. For example, will there still be “Nam Dinh beef noodle soup”, “Hai Duong green bean cake”, “Thai Binh fish cake”, “Bac Giang chu noodles”… Although there are concerns, these statuses are basically for fun discussion, however, there are also many individuals and forums that post information and discussions that are not constructive, with the intention of teasing and sarcasm…
First of all, it must be clearly affirmed that the policy of merging provinces to expand development space, abolishing district level, merging communes; merging ministries, branches, reducing focal points, reducing intermediate levels... is being vigorously implemented in recent times and has received attention, support and trust from the people. The plan for which province will merge with which province has not been announced, but perhaps there will be official information soon. According to the schedule, the plan to merge provinces will be submitted to the Central Government before April 7 and as the Minister of Home Affairs informed the press, the merger of provinces will be completed before September 2025.
Cua Lo Town of Nghe An Province officially merged into Vinh City from December 1, 2024, the brand "Cua Lo Beach" remains unchanged for tourists. |
With the issued resolutions and conclusions, it can be seen that, although implemented with the spirit of "running while queuing", the streamlining of the apparatus, merging provinces and cities, eliminating district levels, merging communes... are being implemented systematically and scientifically by the Central Government, ministries, branches and localities. Which province will merge with which province, where the administrative center will be located, and the name of the province after the merger will certainly be carefully studied, considering many factors, so that it is most suitable and advantageous...
Brands have more "room to perform"
Returning to the issue of whether the brand associated with the locality will remain or disappear as mentioned above when merging provinces, I would like to affirm: Familiar brands, famous brands associated with the name of the province, locality will not disappear! Some specific examples can be taken as follows, such as the famous brand "Pho Nam Dinh" or "Pho Bo Nam Dinh" that is known by many people and has existed for a long time. Going back to previous years, when the three provinces of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh were one, not yet separated, no one ever talked or mentioned "Pho Bo Ha Nam Ninh". It is not known which plan the province will merge with in the future, but I think that if Nam Dinh merges with a province and the new province is named like that, the quality of Nam Dinh beef pho will not change and people will still call and mention the brand of Pho Nam Dinh as usual. The business, trade, and number of customers at Nam Dinh beef pho restaurants will not decrease or increase because of that...
Similarly, according to the above analysis, it can be seen that some brands associated with local specialties such as Thanh Hoa sour sausage, Hai Duong green bean cake, Chu noodles, Nghe An eel soup... and many other famous products will not lose their brands and names if the localities with these products merge and have new names. Because these brands have been deeply ingrained in the subconscious, shaped in people's minds, and are not easily lost. Moreover, for business people and manufacturers, brands are extremely important, so they will certainly retain those brands, with symbols and names to spread and develop. That is not against any regulations, or hinders any barriers, or will be expressed in appropriate administrative documents (if any)...
Not only in specific products and specialties as mentioned above, some brands associated with tourism and traditional goods in localities, once "shaped", will not change. For example, Cua Lo Town of Nghe An Province officially merged into Vinh City from December 1, 2024, the brand and name of a coastal tourist area "Cua Lo Beach" will not change, because of the merger of Cua Lo Town into Vinh City, people and tourists did not change the name to "Vinh Beach"... Or like the merger of Ha Tay Province into Hanoi from August 1, 2008, it has been nearly 20 years now, but the brands associated with the old Ha Tay Province such as "Ha Dong Silk", "Van Phuc Silk" still exist and develop. Or when mentioning craft villages in Phu Xuyen, Thach That, Thanh Oai districts, people still mention "Ha Tay land of hundreds of crafts" or "Ha Tay silk village" and until now, those craft village brands and products are still preserved and developed...
Streamlining the apparatus and merging provinces and cities is a major and important policy that has been and is being implemented, receiving the attention and trust of the people in the decisions of the Party and the State. It is completely legitimate for people to be interested, have concerns and contribute opinions. However, it is necessary to condemn and eliminate unconstructive opinions and fight against acts of taking advantage of this policy to distort, incite and sabotage. |
