The “Heritage Road” can be seen as a symbol of success in connectivity in the North Central and Central Coast regions, one of the six socio-economic regions in our country today. Promoting regional connectivity has always been one of the top priorities in socio-economic development in our country in recent times. This is an important content mentioned in the Documents of the 13th National Party Congress, as well as in the medium-term economic development plan for the period 2021 - 2025 and the Socio-economic Development Strategy for the period 2021 - 2030.

Discussing regional linkage, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, said: "Each region has different functions and development roles, we must find a way to combine that strength into national strength". Expressed in many forms, such as sector linkage, linkage between functional entities and spatial linkage (including intra-regional and inter-regional linkage...), promoting regional linkage is always one of the top priority tasks in socio-economic development in our country.

Along with 6 socio-economic regions, our country also has 4 key economic regions. The 13th National Party Congress determined: Synchronous development and creation of close and effective linkages between regions, areas, economic sectors, types of production and business. Accelerating the development of national, regional, sectoral and sectoral development plans in accordance with the potential and advantages of each locality and the country's reality to enhance the autonomy, adaptability and resilience of the economy. Strengthening sectoral, intra-regional and inter-regional linkages, promoting participation in production networks and global value chains, opening up new development spaces.

Hue City is one of 14 provinces and cities in the North Central and Central Coast regions and also one of five provinces and cities in the Central Key Economic Zone. Promoting its own potentials and advantages, in recent times, Hue City has actively and proactively coordinated with central ministries, branches and localities in the region to develop plans, programs and projects to develop the region, such as: Investing in infrastructure, especially the connecting transport infrastructure system; linking to promote investment attraction, trade promotion; linking to develop tourism; participating in building common mechanisms and policies of the region.

The Resolution of the 16th Hue City Party Congress determined the task of promoting linkages, promoting unique potentials and advantages to improve the effectiveness of regional linkages, especially in cultural exchange and linkages in tourism development; high-tech agriculture; biotechnology; medical examination and treatment science and solving problems such as climate change, environmental pollution, rising sea levels. At the same time, strengthen linkages, build coastal roads; complete expressways connecting localities in the region. Linking seaports and airports with Da Nang to create an international trade gateway, comprehensively developing logistics services to serve the Central region, the Central Highlands and countries on the East-West economic corridor.

To promote and enhance the effectiveness of linkages, in May 2024, the 4th Conference of the Coordination Council of the North Central and Central Coast regions will be held in Hue city; the decision to approve the Planning of the North Central and Central Coast regions for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, will be announced. The Planning of the North Central and Central Coast regions for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, was approved by the Prime Minister on May 4, 2024. The goal by 2030 is that the North Central and Central Coast regions will be fast-growing, dynamic, sustainable, and strong in marine economy.

Implementing Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the Central Executive Committee on “Some issues on continuing to innovate and reorganize the political system to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently”, along with the whole country, many provinces and cities in the North Central and Central Coast regions were merged. Not only to streamline the organizational apparatus, merging provinces also opened up new space to accelerate development, towards the goal of making our country a developed, high-income country by 2045.

It is also an opportunity to unify the comprehensive management of strategies and development planning on the scale of the entire economy, regions and inter-regions, overcoming the situation of the economy being divided by administrative boundaries or scattered and overlapping investments, promoting the development of regional linkages, as determined by the Party at the 12th Congress.
