On August 24, Thanh Khe District Police (Da Nang City) said they were temporarily holding more than 800 moon cakes of unknown origin and summoning the owner to work with them to clarify the matter.

At the time of inspection, the police discovered 810 mooncake products of various types with labels written in foreign languages. At this time, the owner of the establishment could not present invoices or documents proving the origin of the above goods.
Ms. TTAT also admitted that she bought moon cakes in large quantities "floating" from many sources on social networks to resell for profit.
Currently, Thanh Khe District Police are temporarily detaining the entire shipment of moon cakes of unknown origin for further verification and handling.
Thanh Khe District Police Economic Police Team made a record of the incident.
Previously, on August 15, Market Management Team No. 3 (Market Management Department of Da Nang City) suddenly inspected the NL candy store on Ky Dong Street (Thanh Khe Dong Ward, Thanh Khe District).
This store is a business owned by Mr. VCT. At the time of inspection, Market Management Team No. 3 discovered that NL store was selling nearly 1,800 moon cakes of various types such as salted egg yolk, melted egg yolk, etc.
The owner of the establishment declared to the authorities that the origin of these moon cakes was from China, imported and currently circulating in the Vietnamese market, but could not provide accompanying legal invoices or documents.
Market Management Team No. 3 has temporarily detained all of the moon cakes to prevent administrative violations and serve as a basis for punishment.
According to the Market Management Department, the Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 is approaching, the demand for cakes and candies, especially moon cakes, tends to increase.
Besides reputable production and business establishments with safe products, there are still some organizations and individuals who bring smuggled food and goods of unknown origin to the market. Therefore, consumers need to be wise in choosing safe products for themselves and their families.
Evidence of 1,800 moon cakes seized
Specifically, to have safe food, candy, and moon cakes, consumers need to choose products with the name, address of the manufacturer, importer, production date, expiry date, ingredients, instructions for use, storage, etc. fully printed on the packaging; the product is not crushed or deformed, the packaging is intact, not torn, and does not have unusual colors or odors.
“Consumers absolutely do not buy products that are floating around, have no origin, or have expired…”, the Market Management Department of Da Nang City warned.
