The ship sailed from Finland to Miami, USA last week and is set to embark on its maiden voyage on January 27 as the world's largest cruise ship. The 20-story, 2,805-room "floating resort" can accommodate up to 7,600 guests. Icon of the Seas has broken many records in the cruise industry.
The ship left its home base in Finland and just arrived in Miami.
How big is the Icon of the Seas compared to the Titanic? When the Titanic embarked on its first – and only – voyage in April 1912, it was the largest ship ever built. It was 920 feet long, weighed 46,328 tons and had nine decks. It had a maximum passenger capacity of 2,345 people.
In comparison, Icon of the Seas is five times larger. At 365m long, it is longer than 30 double-decker buses and weighs 250,800 tonnes; it has 20 floors and can accommodate 7,600 passengers.
Icon of the Seas' most shocking amenities: The ship is home to the largest water park at sea, Thrill Island, which also features the first free-fall slide at sea. There are six record-breaking waterslides, seven pools, and nine whirlpools on board. Of course, the largest water park at sea is home to the largest pool at sea.
Perhaps the greatest feat of engineering is the Aquadome – the largest freestanding dome at sea, made up of 700 glass panels. During the day, it offers panoramic views of the ocean, and at night, it features the AquaTheater, where a waterfall cascades onto the stage below. The ship is divided into eight distinct areas – Central Park is a relaxing area with a real park of 33,500 real trees
The cheapest starts at $1,800 per person for a seven-night stay in a cabin in September 2024. Or another seven-night stay in September 2024 will set you back $4,700 per person. But in March 2024, the same package will cost you $10,000.
Guests can even stay in the three-story townhouse, which sleeps eight and is every kid's dream: with slides instead of stairs. Be prepared to spend a fortune, though, as a week in the townhouse will set a family back a staggering $100,000+.
Icon of the Seas sails seven-night cruises throughout the Eastern and Western Caribbean year-round. The megaship's home port is Miami, and itineraries will almost always include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, a resort located on one of the Bahamas' Berry Islands, owned by Royal Caribbean.
