Currently, most of the vehicles operating under the popular yacht model are registered as inland waterway passenger vehicles with a capacity of 3-12 people.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, currently, cruise activities in Vietnam are often understood in a broad sense, including large-scale international cruise ships with multi-day cruises on fixed international tourist routes, and private yachts of foreign visitors visiting Vietnam on tourist or business trips.

Cruise activities in Vietnam are still understood in a broad sense, including recreational vessels and inland waterway vehicles carrying tourists and vacationers (Illustration photo).

In addition, there are also tourist boats on routes and tourist areas that combine sightseeing, resting, dining... or vehicles at tourist and resort areas that serve specific needs, and vehicles serving water recreation and entertainment.

The activities of these vehicles are mainly concentrated in localities with many potential advantages in terms of sea, islands and rivers such as: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City...

In the Yacht Management Project, the Vietnam Maritime Administration informed that currently most of the vehicles operating under the popular yacht model are registered as inland waterway passenger vehicles with a capacity of 3-12 people.

According to statistics from the Vietnam Register, the current fleet of inland waterway vehicles carrying passengers from 3 to 12 people is 195, of which 3-5 passengers is 10%, 6-8 passengers is 44% and 9-12 passengers is 46%. The average age of the vehicles is 9 years old, with capacity from 8 HP to 3600 HP, mainly high-speed passenger boats.

In the Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa area, there are no Vietnamese watercraft registered to operate as yachts in the management area of Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority.

Inland waterway vehicles with registration level VR-SB have the same shape and hull structure as yachts that regularly operate at marinas.

These vehicles are registered as VR-SB vehicles, mainly used as passenger ships, high-speed passenger ships, high-speed people ships or people ships and registered to operate as tourist passenger transport to visit Nha Trang Bay, not registered to operate as private yachts.

Meanwhile, the number of foreign yachts arriving at the Marina is insignificant compared to the reception capacity of the marina.

In Quang Ninh, since 2019, there has been 1 cruise ship entering and leaving wharf No. 1 - Ha Long international passenger port. In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, in recent years, there have also been a number of foreign cruise ships arriving/leaving and carrying out a number of maritime activities such as Longlive cruise ship (Panama nationality), Octave cruise ship (UK nationality).

Notably, in recent times, there have been no cruise ships flying the Vietnamese flag serving recreational or sports tourism activities at Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport.

As one of the areas with famous yachting activities, in Ho Chi Minh City there are currently 3 yachts registered at the Vietnam Maritime Administration in Ho Chi Minh City, including the Hoa Binh Carrara yacht (Phu Quoc Green Tourism Company Limited), the My Little Princess yacht (Hai Au Petroleum Maritime Joint Stock Company) and the Sunhine yacht (Dai Hong Phat Investment, Trade and Service Company Limited).

In Dong Nai, there are 5 cruise ships in operation. The cruise ships are anchored at inland waterway passenger terminals located in the seaport waters of Dong Nai area and have been licensed to operate by the local Department of Transport. The cruise ships operating in this area are all inland waterway vehicles with VR-SI, VR-SII certificates.

In response to the development needs of yachting activities, in the Detailed Planning of seaports, ports, wharves, buoys, water areas, and water regions for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister , there are 3 seaports planned to develop yachting wharves when qualified, including Nha Trang, Cam Ranh and Phan Thiet wharf areas. The seaports will develop yachting wharves when qualified.
