On December 26, in Tien Yen district, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province held a conference to evaluate the production results of some key aquatic species in 2024 and the direction and tasks for 2025.
In 2024, the Quang Ninh agricultural sector faced a series of difficulties due to the epidemic as well as the impact of storm No. 3. However, with determination and efforts to overcome difficulties, the entire sector, especially the aquaculture sector, immediately started implementing solutions to guide people in environmental treatment and disease control. Up to now, after Four months after storm No. 3 passed, aquaculture activities in the whole province have been restored. The inland farming area of the whole province is about 32,092 hectares, of which the industry is focusing on white-leg shrimp in the third crop with a farming area of nearly 2,000 hectares to compensate for the loss of aquatic product value of the industry, as well as to meet the high demand during Tet.
Regarding marine aquaculture, the whole province has about 10,200 hectares. After the storm, the Department of Agriculture accompanied the people in guiding measures for care, environmental monitoring, warning people to access information as quickly as possible to proactively prevent and control diseases, and effectively cultivate.
Along with that, the licensing of aquaculture water surface has been promoted by coastal localities. Up to now, 4 localities in the province have allocated sea areas to organizations and individuals for aquaculture with a total area of over 8,790 hectares in Quang Yen, Van Don, Cam Pha and Hai Ha.
To ensure the growth target of the aquaculture industry in 2025, at the conference, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ninh focused on analyzing, evaluating and identifying the situation and development trends of the shrimp and marine aquaculture industry in Vietnam in general and Quang Ninh province in particular. Accordingly, in 2025, many aquaculture facilities in the province are still in a state of continuing to restore infrastructure, and marine production has not been completed due to the impact of the extremely large storm No. 3 in 2024. It is forecasted that by the end of the second quarter of 2025, marine aquaculture facilities will have basically repaired their infrastructure and entered stable production. Weather factors are forecast to become increasingly unpredictable and some factors in the aquatic environment can cause shock or disadvantage to some slow-adapting aquatic products.
Based on the analysis and assessment of difficulties and advantages, the Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture sets a target of 6-8% growth in the aquaculture sector in 2025; at the same time, strive to bring shrimp farming output to account for at least 25% of the total aquaculture output of the province. Regarding marine aquaculture, focus on coordinating with localities to rearrange according to approved projects/plans, strive to complete the planning of concentrated and dispersed aquaculture areas in the area before March 15, 2025, and complete the assignment of marine aquaculture areas; strengthen guidance and encourage the application of technologies and techniques that have been effectively deployed in the province in shrimp and marine aquaculture.
