US announces new sanctions package against Russia, more aid for Ukraine

Sanctions from the US Treasury and State Departments have affected nearly 400 individuals and organizations inside and outside Russia.

The US Treasury Department said "the move also targets Russian financial technology companies that provide software and IT solutions essential to Russia's financial sector."

At the same time, the US State Department said it was "targeting entities and individuals involved in Russia's future energy, metals, and mining production and exports."

In a show of support for Ukraine, President Joe Biden also announced a new aid package on August 22 that includes air defense missiles and anti-drone equipment.

In addition to air defense equipment, the aid package also includes anti-tank missiles and ammunition.
