(NLDO) – World gold prices broke the old peak, setting a new peak of over 2,800 USD/ounce, pushing the prices of SJC gold bars and gold rings to skyrocket.
On the morning of January 31 (the third day of Tet), the price of SJC gold bars was traded at gold shops in Ho Chi Minh City for buying at 87.5 million VND/tael and selling at 88.3 million VND/tael, a shocking increase of about 1.1 million VND/tael compared to yesterday. Previously, the price of SJC gold bars was traded between 87.4 million VND and 87.7 million VND/tael and there was a large difference between business units.
The gold market mainly fluctuates in price, trading demand increases but the scale is not large because many commercial banks and large gold companies are closed for Tet.
The price of 99.99 gold rings and jewelry gold is listed by some gold shops at 86.5 million VND/tael for buying and 87.1 million VND/tael for selling, a sharp increase of about 700,000 VND/tael compared to yesterday. Some other units sell at a higher price, around 87.7 million VND/tael. The price of gold rings varies between brands and business units.
Domestic gold prices suddenly skyrocketed following the world's upward trend. In the international market, gold prices today hit an all-time high, surpassing the $2,800/ounce mark, up $40/ounce from yesterday. This is the highest mark in history for the precious metal, surpassing the peak of $2,790/ounce set in October 2024.
Not only gold, the USD also rose in the international market. The USD index was traded around 107.9 points, up from the previous session. According to analysts, the price of gold continues to be a shining investment channel, attracting cash flow from the market.
Gold's record high came a day after the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged and began signaling that its easing cycle could end sooner than markets had expected.
In a press conference following the central bank's recent monetary policy decision, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the agency is in no rush to cut interest rates because the inflation outlook remains uncertain and the labor market remains strong. Gold's appeal as a safe haven has strengthened, helping the precious metal hit a record high.
Currently, the world gold price converted according to the listed exchange rate is about 85.4 million VND/tael.
