On August 28, the leader of the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Nam district (Binh Thuan) said that heavy rain that lasted last night caused serious flooding in many dragon fruit growing areas in Ham My, Tan Lap, and Ham Kiem communes. Many houses and roads in these communes were also flooded, and traffic was cut off.
As of noon today, in Ham My commune, water is still deeply inundated in residential areas along Highway 719B, some places are more than 1 meter deep. Many dragon fruit gardens only have tops visible, inter-village and inter-commune roads are still cut off.
In Tan Lap commune, strong currents swept away a local motorbike. Authorities are assisting local residents in moving their belongings and carrying out rescue work. The motorbike that was swept away has been salvaged to shore.
According to the Binh Thuan Province Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours, the areas of Tanh Linh, Duc Linh, Ham Tan districts, La Gi town and Ham Thuan Nam district have had moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain. The Ham Thuan Nam District People's Committee is continuing to support people and count the damage caused by the heavy rain.
