Former racing driver Ralf Schumacher has revealed recent medical advances could have saved his brother, F1 legend Michael Schumacher, from a coma after a crash 10 years ago.
"I miss Michael back then. Life is sometimes unfair. Michael had many lucky times in his life, but then a terrible accident happened. Luckily, modern medicine was able to do something to help him wake up," Ralf Schumacher said in a recent interview with Bild .

Michael Schumacher was born in 1969, is a legendary F1 racer, holding the record for seven world championships. In 2013, a year after retiring, Schumacher had a skiing accident in France. He suffered a brain injury and has been unconscious since then. Currently, the former German racer is receiving special care at home. His family still hopes to help him regain consciousness, but has provided little information about the legend's condition.
Ralf, born in 1975, also raced in F1 from 1997 to 2007. He won six races, with his peak being fourth in the 2001 season.
"Michael was not just my brother. When I was young, he was also like a coach, a guide. Michael taught me almost everything about racing. Even though we were born seven years apart, Michael was always close to me. We raced together, practiced together and everything related to this sport," Ralf recalls.
Ralf considers himself lucky to have been taught by his brother, who he considers the best racing driver of all time. When asked how the Schumacher family dealt with Michael's accident, Ralf replied: "It was a big experience for me, but of course the children were more affected. The day of Michael's accident was very unfortunate. This fate changed our family."
December 29, 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of Michael Schumacher's accident. His memory is still alive in the hearts of many colleagues and friends. Damon Hill, who was Schumacher's rival on the track, said that the tragedy that happened to him reminded everyone to cherish every day of their lives and be grateful for the luck that came their way. "It was a terrible accident. You don't wish that on anyone. I think the Schumacher family has suffered a lot," Hill said.
