Recently, on McDonald's Facebook page, there was information about the closure of the Ben Thanh branch at 2-2A Tran Hung Dao, Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. This is one of the first stores of this fast food chain in Vietnam.

"Although we do not want to say goodbye, at 2:00 a.m. on September 19, 2024, McDonald's Ben Thanh will close its 10-year emotional journey," McDonald's informed about the time of closing McDonald's Ben Thanh store.

McDonald's appeared in the Vietnamese market in February 2014 with its first store at 2-6 Bis Dien Bien Phu, Da Kao Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. This is also the headquarters of McDonald's Vietnam. At that time, the American fast food brand said it would open 100 stores in 10 years.

However, 10 years have passed, and now, McDonald's only has 36 stores in provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City. With McDonald's Ben Thanh closing, this fast food chain only has 35 stores nationwide and 17 stores in Ho Chi Minh City.

Operating 24/7, McDonald's Ben Thanh is located on Tran Hung Dao Street and not far from Ben Thanh Market. This store has 3 floors, a construction area of 660m2, and can accommodate about 260 guests. With a prime location in the bustling center of Ho Chi Minh City, this store is often very crowded.

Although McDonald's did not reveal the reason for closing this prime location, many people speculated that the American fast food brand could not afford the rent in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously, Starbucks also announced the closure of the Starbuck Reserve store located in a prime location on Han Thuyen Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City from August 26.

Starbucks Reserve Han Thuyen at 11-13 Han Thuyen, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, consists of 1 ground floor and 2 upper floors with a total area of 212.5 square meters, with a frontage of 8.5 meters. The reason for the closure is that Starbucks Vietnam could not reach an agreement to extend the lease with the landlord.
