At the International Workshop "Building a set of filmmaking environment indexes associated with economic and social development from the reality of Phu Yen province" on the morning of November 16, for the first time in Vietnam, the Film Crew Attraction Index - PAI (Production Attraction Index) developed by the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development was announced and received strong support and response from localities, film experts and filmmakers.

PAI evaluates the interest of provinces and cities in welcoming film crews, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of each locality according to 5 criteria: Financial support; Information support; Field support; Legal procedure support and Local available infrastructure. Based on the local self-assessment according to PAI criteria, Phu Yen is at the top of the film crew attraction index. This shows that Phu Yen province is showing great interest and is ready to create all conditions to welcome domestic and foreign film crews to film.

Besides Phu Yen, 9 provinces and cities nationwide, namely Tuyen Quang, Khanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Da Nang, Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue, Ninh Binh, Bac Can and Can Tho, have participated in introducing and self-assessing their readiness to welcome film projects to their localities. This is the most valuable invitation from each locality to filmmakers, Vietnamese and international film studios, attracting them to choose to film in beautiful and attractive lands in Vietnam.

The most prominent event was the Gala “Coming to Phu Yen, the big studio” broadcast live on VTV8, VTV9. The audience enjoyed listening to the stories and emotions of Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy; People's Artist Lan Huong, screenwriter Trinh Thanh Nha, young actors Lam Thanh My, Trong Khang in the film I see yellow flowers on the green grass when returning to Phu Yen. Cinema plays a significant role in promoting the image of the land, cultural values, and heritage to the public and attracting tourists. According to the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Yen province, Nguyen Thi Hong Thai, the number of tourists to Phu Yen has increased sharply (from 750,000 visitors in 2014 to 1.8 million visitors in 2019, earning 2,000 billion VND) 2.5 times higher than before I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass was released. That shows how strong the impact of Cinema is on tourism.

Sharing at the Gala, producer Trinh Hoan, director Phan Gia Nhat Linh, director Dinh Tuan Vu, through stories about the journey of producing quality films selected for screening in the program, showed the power of cinema in promoting the image of lands and attracting tourists.

In particular, the information that the movie Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story adapted from the work of writer Nguyen Nhat Anh is about to be filmed in Phu Yen province in December 2023, expected to be released in theaters in 2024 has made the audience very interested and expectant.

Also in the Gala program, the website vietnamfilmproduction.vn of the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association, jointly developed by the international law firm Baker and Mckenzie Vietnam, was officially launched. Through this, for the first time, the filmmaking “ecosystem” in Vietnam was systematically introduced so that international and Vietnamese filmmakers, film studios can find a common voice, moving towards effective filmmaking cooperation projects.

Over 30 impressive photos of Phu Yen’s unique filming locations were exhibited to introduce to directors, screenwriters and producers. The photo series on display clearly shows that Phu Yen’s landscape is easy to bring to the screen with a variety of genres, both aesthetic and real.

The tour of attractive tourist destinations and interesting filming locations in Phu Yen left an impression and inspired Vietnamese and foreign filmmakers with scenes of films they are planning to make in the near future.

People's Artist Lan Huong shared: “I was very impressed when participating in the program 'Cinema with Phu Yen'. It is truly a fertile and peaceful land with many beautiful settings for films. As a member of the film crew, I witnessed the brothers and sisters having to carry out many procedures when filming locally. The PAI Index is a good initiative of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development. Through the participation of the provinces in the Index, it will contribute to promoting and attracting film crews to the locality.

Indian filmmaker Rahul Sudesh Bali shared: “The program was great. Through the program, the Indian delegation saw the potential of Phu Yen to become a major film studio as well as the province's commitment to supporting film crews. I appreciate VFDA's initiative in preparing and releasing the PAI Film Crew Attraction Index. PAI's information is very useful in helping us understand more about the incentives and support for film crews in provinces and cities in Vietnam. I think other cities in Vietnam should coordinate with VFDA to participate in PAI and implement programs like the one in Phu Yen. That way, Vietnamese cinema will develop more strongly."

The program "Cinema with Phu Yen" was very successful, creating a widespread effect as expected by Mr. Pham Dai Duong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee: "We believe that through the cinematographic works, the vast natural space and the rich culture of Phu Yen will spread more clearly, more colorfully and this land will become a lively art studio for Vietnamese and international artists to sublimate their endless emotions, creating timeless cinematographic works".

The Organizing Committee believes that the program "Cinema with Phu Yen" will create "a new wave" to help Phu Yen and many other provinces and cities become attractive film studios, welcoming many domestic and international film crews.
